Please help us welcome Makaela Hoffman, our new Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Charles City Community School District!

Makaela lives in Rockford and brings extensive educational knowledge and experience, holding degrees from Waldorf, Wartburg, and Drake University. Makaela and her husband, Rob, have three children—a recent University of Iowa graduate and two current Hawkeyes. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, baking, and visiting her kids in Iowa City.

"I'm excited meet every one and see first hand all of the great things happening in all of the schools," Makaela said.

With the 2026-27 school year underway, we want to introduce our new 4th grade teacher, Lizzy Mathers! Lizzy is from Greene, attended NIACC, and graduated from UNI with a degree in Elementary Education.

"My goal is to create a positive, welcoming classroom where every student feels valued, supported, and comfortable being themselves. I want my students to feel confident taking risks, asking questions, making mistakes, and learning from them," Lizzy said.

Outside of school, Lizzy enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, traveling, and staying active, as well as coaching softball and spending time at the ball field.

We're so glad to have you on the Comet team, Lizzy! ☄️

We are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity of Mike Molstead Motors! Because of their extraordinary commitment to our youth, every single student in Charles City Schools, from kindergarten through 12th grade, received a free student activity pass for admission to all Charles City regular-season home athletic events this year.

To make it even more special, members of the Molstead family personally visited our classrooms on the first day of school to pass out the passes to our students!

A quick reminder for our Comet families:
- Students must present their activity pass at the gate for free admission.
- Students in grades K–6 must be accompanied by an adult.

On behalf of our entire district, we extend our absolute deepest gratitude to Mike Molstead Motors. This amazing investment will make a lasting impact all season long!

A special election will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, regarding the renewal of the Charles City Community School District’s Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL).

The current levy expires in 2030. Voter approval of this measure would extend the existing levy through 2040. Renewal of the levy in this election will allow funding to continue at the same level for the next 14 years. Because this measure is a renewal of an existing levy, 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀.

By state law, PPEL funds are restricted to specific infrastructure and hardware expenditures. Eligible uses include school bus maintenance and replacement, building security upgrades, and general facility upkeep.

Past PPEL projects for the Charles City Community School District include school security door readers to keep building entrances secure, school bus and vehicle repair and replacement, replaced sewer lines at the High School, fire alarm replacement, and numerous others that allow the district to offer safe and positive learning environments.

UPDATE: Phone and internet service has been restored at all Charles City Community School District buildings.

Thank you for your patience while we worked through the outage. Our school offices are once again available by phone and email.

The Charles City Community School District is currently experiencing district-wide phone and internet outages.

We are working to restore service and will update this post as soon as the issue has been resolved.
