The South Carolina Department of Public Health has notified Charleston County Mosquito Control (CCMC) of confirmed positive West Nile virus (WNV) cases in Charleston County.

In response, CCMC is taking additional measures to reduce adult mosquito populations and limit the potential spread of WNV.

Residents can help reduce their risk of mosquito-borne illness by taking the following precautions:
- Drain standing water around your home that can serve as a breeding site for mosquitoes.
- Avoid outdoor activity, when possible, during dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active.
- Dress to deter mosquitoes by wearing long sleeves and long pants when outdoors.
- Defend yourself by using an effective, EPA-registered insect repellent.
- Maintain doors and window screens in good condition to keep mosquitoes outdoors.

When the power goes out, generators can help keep your home running — but using them improperly can be deadly. We want to remind everyone to use generators safely to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

✅ Use generators outdoors only — at least 20 feet away from your home, doors, and windows.
✅ Never operate a generator in a garage, even if the door is open.
✅ Keep the generator dry and operate it on a flat, stable surface.
✅ Let it cool before refueling to prevent fires.
✅ Install carbon monoxide alarms in your home and check the batteries regularly.

Good morning! Dangerous heat is expected once again today. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the coastal counties from 11 AM to 8 PM, while a Heat Advisory is in place for the remaining inland areas during the same timeframe. 🌡️🥵

This storm brings the possibility of 60 mph gusts.
