AG JB McCuskey spent time yesterday with two of his favorite groups — the citizens of WV Mountaineer Boys State and WV Rhododendron Girls State. At Boys State, AG McCuskey issued a challenge to the next generation: "Make a friend who disagrees with you." At Girls State, he had the honor of addressing the next generation of women leaders. Every year, these groups are a reminder of just how impressive West Virginia's next generation truly is. 🏔️

West Virginia Solicitor General Michael Williams will participate as a featured panelist in a national webinar hosted by the George Mason University Law & Economics Center TODAY from 3:00–4:15 PM ET.

The panel will analyze the Supreme Court's recent 8-0 ruling in Chevron USA v. Plaquemines Parish, which held that energy companies may remove Louisiana coastal damage lawsuits from state court to federal court under the federal officer removal statute. The decision affects 42 pending Louisiana lawsuits alleging coastal land loss tied to energy production.

Panelists will examine what comes next for those lawsuits, retroactive liability questions, protections for federal contractors, and the boundaries of tort law.

Solicitor General Williams represents West Virginia in appeals before state and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, and coordinates the state's strategic affirmative litigation — making him a key voice on how this ruling could affect states nationwide.

West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey is leading a 20-state coalition in support of students pursuing degrees that Virginia has deemed too religious to qualify for the state’s scholarship programs. The coalition’s amicus brief in Johnson v. Fleming argues that those exclusions violate the students’ First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion.

West Virginia Solicitor General Michael Williams represented our state on a national stage last week, serving as a keynote speaker at the C. Boyden Gray Center's Regulatory Litigation Trends conference in Washington, D.C.

SG Williams joined former EPA General Counsel Matt Leopold for a keynote conversation on Suncor, energy policy, and the future of federalism — topics at the heart of West Virginia's ongoing efforts to defend state authority against federal regulatory overreach.
The conference, hosted at the Hay-Adams and organized by George Mason University's Antonin Scalia Law School, brought together top practitioners to examine the most significant legal and regulatory trends shaping courts and agencies today.

West Virginia continues to lead on the issues that matter most to our state. ⚖️🏔️

A federal appeals court recently handed activist groups a powerful new tool: the ability to sue and halt any federal permitting project before the responsible state agency has even had a chance to review it.

West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey is leading a coalition of 21 states to push back, filing an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court asking the Court to reverse that ruling and restore states' congressionally granted permitting authority.

This Memorial Day, we remember all who gave their lives in service to this country — including National Guardsman Sarah Beckstrom, a 20-year-old West Virginian who was killed in an ambush-style attack in Washington, D.C., on November 26, 2025. She died on Thanksgiving, surrounded by a nation that owed her more than it could repay. We also keep National Guardsman Andrew Wolfe in our prayers as he continues his recovery from injuries sustained in the same attack.

Sarah and Andrew answered the call to serve. That is the definition of courage. On this day, we honor them — and every man and woman who has worn the uniform — with gratitude that words cannot fully capture.

We will never forget.
