On Wednesday, January 11th 2023. The Rand Fire Department along with Malden Fire Department and Belle Fire Department, responded to a commercial structure fire in the 100 block of Campbells Creek Dr.

While en route, Chief 3 advised a working fire and continued the assignment. Engine 43 went en route with a crew of 2. First arriving engine found heavy smoke and fire from the building and began their attack. Engine 43 arrived 2nd due shortly thereafter and hand jacked 4” supply line to complete the water supply.

Truck 5 from Belle Fire Department arrived and provided roof access during the incident. The fire was extinguished and all station 4 units returned to service.

Quick action and response by all involved prevented further property damage and injury.

On Thursday, December 1st 2022 at approximately 00:04 hours, the Rand Fire Department along with the Malden Fire Department and Kanawha County Ambulance Authority was alerted for a structure fire in the 5300 block of Starling Dr. Prior to going en route Metro 911 alerted units that deputies advised them of children being inside the apartment at the time of dispatch. Engine 41 shortly thereafter responded with a crew of 3 and arrived on scene to find nothing visible from the outside. Upon making entry crews were met with dense smoke conditions inside the apartment on the first and second floors. Engine 41 attempted to locate the fire while also completing primary searches at which time they located two children and two adults and removed them from the structure. Crews located the fire inside of a dryer and removed it out of the apartment for extinguishment. Ventilation was completed and all units returned to service shortly thereafter. Quick actions by all involved prevented injuries and further property damage.

With trick or treat night coming tomorrow, the Rand Fire Department encourages you to keep a close eye out for children while driving through neighborhoods. This is a fun night for adults and children alike and we hope you all have fun, but be safe!

Parents keep a close eye on your children and drivers. Walk toward traffic, and wear bright colors.

On Thursday, September 22nd at approximately 12:18pm, while attending the DuPont Middle School football game members of the Rand Fire Department were notified of a small fire in a PA speaker box located on top of the press box. Members quickly notified Metro 911 of the incident and the assignment for the Fire Investigation was created. Upon further investigation it was found that the speaker box shorted out causing it to catch fire. Members utilized a fire extinguisher to put the fire out and the assignment was reduced to the units on scene. Quick work by members on scene prevented further property damaged and injury.

On Tuesday, July 19th 2022. The Rand Fire Department was dispatched for a trash fire in the 4800 block of Midland Dr. Prior to going en route Metro 911 advised multiple callers saying the structure adjacent to the fire was burning. Upon arrival a portable unit from station 4 found a pile of cardboard boxes on fire with an exposure to a wooden fence alongside it. They then advised that the building was not on fire and that it was strictly a rubbish fire.

Engine 41 went en route along with utility 4 and arrived on scene to find the same. Companies placed a line in service extinguishing the rubbish as well as the fence. No further property damage and or injuries were reported.

On Wednesday February 9th 2022, at approximately 06:12 hours, the Rand Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 5900 block of Elaine Dr. Upon arrival a portable unit from the Rand Fire Department reported heavy fire through the roof of a small mobile home. Engine 41 responded shortly thereafter staffed with two and placed a line in service upon arrival. Engine 42 arrived shortly after and supplied water to the first due engine. A search was conducted due to neighbors not knowing whether the occupant of the mobile home was inside or not and all searches proved negative. Crews remained on scene for roughly two hours removing smoldering items from inside and extinguishing any hot spots. Chief White had Elaine Dr. command.

On Tuesday February 1st, 2022 at approximately 13:13 hours, the Rand Fire Department along with Malden Fire Department, Belle Fire Department, Kanawha County Emergency Management, and Kanawha County Ambulance Authority responded to a reported structure fire in the 5700 block of Elaine Dr. Upon arrival a portable unit from Malden Fire Department reported a working fire with smoke showing. Engine 41 responded staffed with two and placed a line in service upon arrival. Crews faced high heat and low visibility once entry was made. Heavy fire was found in the basement and first floor living room of the home. Once the fire was extinguished two dogs were recovered from inside the home. There were no other injuries reported from this incident. Quick action taken by all involved prevented further property damage and loss of life during this fire. This is the third fire within 7 days that the Rand Fire Department has responded to.
