Shoutout to the 130th Airlift Wing Public Affairs team for capturing the action during Misty Dawn 2026 in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

The large-scale combat operations exercise brought together members of the U.S. Army, United States Air Force, Army National Guard and Air National Guard, and NATO partner nations to strengthen coalition interoperability and integrated combat operations.

Strength. Speed. Endurance.

Soldiers assigned to the West Virginia National Guard G3 meet the challenge of the newly adopted Combat Field Test head on, pushing through events designed to measure combat-focused physical readiness.

Mile long runs, sandbag lifts, and other tactical movement techniques tested Soldiers across aspects of fitness needed for demanding operational environments.

This test consists of:

👟One-mile run
💪30 dead-stop push ups
👟100-meter sprint
💪16 lifts of a 40-pound sandbag onto a 65-inch platform
💪50-meter carry of two five-gallon Army water cans weighing 40 pounds each
👟50-meter movement drill consisting of a 25-meter high crawl and a 25-meter 3-5 second rush.
👟A final one-mile run

Readiness starts long before the mission begins.

Mental health matters, and yesterday JFHQ took time to focus on it together. 💚

Service members and staff started Mental Health Awareness Month with a nature hike and prayer breakfast, followed by su***de prevention training, food trucks, and visits from everyone’s favorite therapy dogs.

Taking care of our people is part of readiness. Events like this remind us of the importance of connection, support, and looking out for one another both on and off duty.

Ready to move when the mission calls. 🇺🇸✈️

Members of the 130th Fatality Search and Recovery Team and the 130th Small Air Terminal assembled a Domestic Operations Aircraft Modular Approach Shoring System (DAMAS) on the flight line at McLaughlin Air National Guard Base, May 3, 2026.

The DAMAS is part of a new equipment package assigned to Team Charlie West, helping ensure FSRT personnel and equipment can rapidly deploy anywhere in the United States in support of domestic operations. The compact lightweight modular ramps system, compared to the conventional wood ramps and shoring, takes fewer individuals to set up and is easily adjusted or reconfigured for different vehicles, saving on manpower, cargo space and fuel.

Earlier today, Adjutant General Jim Seward joined West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey and our very own 249th Army Band in celebrating America at the Grafton Memorial Day Parade.

Each year, Grafton hosts the Official Memorial Day Parade of West Virginia, which is the longest continuously running Memorial Day parade in the country. Hundreds of participants and thousands of onlookers took part in the day’s festivities battling rain while honoring the ultimate sacrifice of America’s fallen service members and commemorating our nation’s 250th anniversary.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the true meaning of this solemn holiday and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

For the West Virginia National Guard, that remembrance is deeply personal. We honor Spc. Sarah Beckstrom’s service, sacrifice and the lasting impact she had on those who served beside her.

Spc. Beckstrom answered the call to serve and gave her life in the line of duty. Her courage, dedication and commitment to others reflect the enduring spirit of West Virginia and the highest ideals of our profession.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we also remember those who are no longer with us, honor their Gold Star Families and carry forward their legacy through service, readiness and care for one another.

Press On.

Cordeiro served from August 2000 until his passing on Jan. 18, 2026. Throughout his career, he served as a combat engineer and horizontal construction engineer, and was assigned to Detachment 1, Army Interagency Training and Education Center, at the time of his passing.

His awards and decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Badge and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

During his memorial ceremony, fellow Soldiers, leaders, family and friends gathered to honor his life, his service and the example he set as a noncommissioned officer.

His legacy will continue through the Soldiers he served beside, led and inspired.

To the Soldiers and Airmen of the West Virginia National Guard,

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, I ask each of you to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of this solemn holiday. Memorial Day is far more than a long weekend marking the unofficial start of summer; it is a sacred time to honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our Nation and the freedoms we hold dear.

Since our founding, the Soldiers and Airmen of the West Virginia National Guard have answered the call to serve, living up to the enduring spirit of the Beeline March and home-grown resilience of our state. Across generations, many West Virginians have laid down their lives so that we might continue to live in liberty. We owe these fallen heroes, and their Gold Star Families, an unpayable debt of gratitude. Their legacy is permanently etched into the history of our military and the foundation of our great country.

As you spend time with family and friends this weekend, I encourage you to pause and remember those who are no longer with us. Let us honor their memory by continuing to uphold the highest standards of our profession, by standing ready to answer our State and Nation's call, and by taking care of one another. Say a special prayer of thanksgiving for SPC Sarah Beckstrom’s service and a prayer of healing for her wonderful family.

Please continue to look out for your wingmen and battle buddies. Apply risk management to your off-duty activities and ensure that everyone returns safely to the formation after the holiday weekend.

Thank you for your continued dedication, service, and sacrifice. Have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

Press On!
