USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships | Road Race

Looking ahead to Sunday's Road Race, traffic impacts will be similar to those experienced today (Saturday, June 20). Bridge Rd and Loudon Heights Rd will remain part of the race route and will operate as rolling closures.

⏰ Approximate impact times: 6 AM–5:30 PM (or end of races)
Please note that following the conclusion of Sunday's races, event breakdown and cleanup operations will begin. Kanawha Blvd, Clendenin St to Hale St will remain closed while equipment is removed and City crews complete street sweeping.

✅All roadways are expected to be open late Sunday.

⚠️ Key Traffic Impacts
• Kanawha Blvd closed: Clendenin St to Wertz Ave
• South Side Bridge closed (traffic routed via Ferry St)
• Rolling closures on Wertz Ave, Oakridge Dr, Bridge Rd, and Loudon Heights Rd
• Modified traffic patterns on Greenbrier St and Capitol St

ℹ️ What is a rolling closure?
Roads remain open to traffic but may be temporarily held by CPD as cyclists approach. Once cyclists have passed, traffic will be permitted to proceed.

🅿️ No on-street parking is permitted along the race route. Vehicles must be removed by 6:30 AM. Towing will be enforced.

🛣️ Interstate Access
Interstate access remains available, except:
• Exit 99 – State Capitol / Greenbrier St (from I-64W / I-77N toward Charleston)
• Greenbrier St on-ramp (near Capitol Complex) to I-77S / I-64E

Access across Lee St will be restricted at Laidley St.

📍 Motorists who had planned to use this access point to cross Lee St should use:
Washington St → Dickinson St → Virginia St

👮 CPD officers will assist traffic at the Virginia St and Quarrier St intersections.

✅ This restriction does not apply to:
• The church parking lot on Lee St
• The parking lot at Lee St & Laidley St

Looking ahead to Saturday's Road Race, the biggest change is the addition of Bridge Rd and Loudon Heights Rd to the race route. Both roadways will operate as rolling closures.

The traffic impacts, road closures, parking restrictions, and access modifications planned for Thursday will be the same as those in place for this evening's (Wednesday, June 17) races.

⚠️ Due to the speed of the cyclists and the nature of the race course, hard closures will be in place along the race route beginning at 5 PM.

🚗 If you need to enter or exit the Criterium footprint by vehicle, please do so before 5 PM. Once racing begins, there will be limited opportunities to cross or leave the race route by vehicle.

🚶 Pedestrian access will remain available at designated crosswalks.

🅿️ No on-street parking will be permitted within the Criterium footprint beginning at 5 PM. 🚨 Towing will be enforced.

📍 ACCESS INFORMATION
• Summers St Parking Garage remains accessible via temporary two-way traffic on Capitol St.
• Four Points by Sheraton guests should use Laidley St and Washington St for hotel access.

🛣️ No race-related impacts to interstate access are anticipated.

The Criterium returns Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Motorists should plan for traffic impacts in downtown Charleston.

If you've experienced the Criterium during the past two years, many of the traffic patterns, road closures, parking restrictions, and access modifications will be familiar.
