A unique presentation at the Main Library you won't want to miss! Join us tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 pm) for a World War II living military history presentation as part of our America 250 celebration.

During World War II, it is estimated that every family in Italy had at least one direct relative who now lived in America, and yet, the Italians fought as Axis forces until their surrender to the Allies in 1943. Learn about how these personal conflicts drove this pocket of World War II, as well as the general struggles of the Italian Royal Army that led to their collapse, such as poor technological advances and military unpreparedness.

The hunt begins tomorrow! September is Cryptid Month AND Library Card Sign-Up Month at Kanawha County Public Library (KCPL), and a very special friend is visiting our branches all around the county to help us celebrate.

A Mothman plushie will be touring KCPL throughout September to check out the Cryptid Month festivities. If you see him at your branch, don’t panic – he’s friendly! He just wants you to remember to renew or sign up for a library card.

Let the staff at your location know where in the building you saw Mothman to receive a special cryptid-themed temporary tattoo, while supplies last.

Mothman will start his tour at the St. Albans branch from September 1 - 3, so you can start your hunt there tomorrow!

If you take a photo of or a selfie with the plushie, post it on social media and tag us ( on Instagram) to be entered into a prize drawing for a chance to win a “KCPL Cryptids” tote bag.

You can also use the hashtag for a bonus entry!
