Upcoming temporary road closure along Madison Avenue. Charleston Public Works crews will be conducting sanitary sewer inspections, completing necessary pipe repairs.

Closure Details:
Madison Avenue between 11th Street and 13th Street.
Start: Tuesday, August 4th, 2026 at 7:00 AM
End: Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 at 3:00 PM

Traffic Guidance & Alternate Routes:
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes during this maintenance period.

Please drive with caution, obey posted traffic signs, and remain alert for workers near the construction zone. The City of Charleston appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as these essential infrastructure improvements are completed.

Coupons are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, so mark your calendar and plan to stop by to see us!

Fun Fact: On average, produce at a farmers market travels less than 50 miles from farm to table, compared to about 1,500 miles for food sold in many grocery stores.

CHARLESTON, IL — Coles County residents affected by the recent tornadoes are invited to attend a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) on Monday, June 29, and Tuesday, June 30, where they can connect with more than 20 agencies and organizations offering information, referrals, and recovery assistance—all in one convenient location.

The MARC is being coordinated by the Coles County Illinois Community Organizations Active in Disaster (CCI-COAD) in partnership with Coles County Emergency Management Agency, the City of Charleston, Eastern Illinois University, and numerous local, state, nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations.

The event will be held:

Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC)

Dates: Monday, June 29, 2026, and Tuesday, June 30, 2026

Time: Noon – 8:00 PM each day

The MARC is designed as a one-stop location where residents can meet directly with organizations that may be able to assist with disaster recovery. Instead of traveling to multiple offices or making numerous phone calls, visitors can explore available resources, ask questions, receive referrals, and learn about programs that may help with their individual recovery needs.

More than twenty agencies and organizations are expected to participate. Additional agencies continue to be added as participation is confirmed.

The MARC is not a distribution site for food, water, or emergency supplies. Instead, participating organizations will provide information, guidance, referrals, and individualized assistance to help residents navigate available recovery resources.

Residents are encouraged to bring, if available:

Driver's license or photo identification

Proof of residency

Utility bill or another document showing their address

However, residents will not be turned away without these.

IMPORTANT FOR THOSE WITH STORM DAMAGE: It's unfortunate that some companies will come swooping in from out-of-town and try to profit off of your loss and misery.

Samaritan's Purse is one free organization coming to help with relief, including tree damage, roof tarping, etc.

If you felt you were forced into a contract, you have three business days from the time you sign to cancel your contract. It must be a written notice of some sort.

Here are some other rights you have as an impacted individual.

If you are in need of storm recovery assistance, stop in and see how the American Red Cross may be able to help you!

The American Red Cross is at the Library today, Thursday, 6/25, until 6PM and tomorrow, Friday, 6/26, from 1PM-6PM.

They are helping people sign up for financial relief, offering water and snacks, and have a variety of other assistance they are offering.
