A deployment can change a person in unexpected ways.

For Tech. Sgt. Kristian Anderson and Tech. Sgt. Maribel Mesina of the 130th Airlift Wing, a deployment to Djibouti became about much more than their military duties. While serving as flight and operational medical technicians, the two Airmen spent their free time volunteering at a local orphanage, providing medical care to children and families with limited access to healthcare.

Through service, sacrifice and connection, they built lasting relationships that transformed their deployment into one of the most rewarding experiences of their lives.

Last weekend, the 130th Communications Squadron (West Virginia Air National Guard) and the 111th Attack Wing's Communications Squadron (Pennsylvania Air National Guard) teamed up at McLaughlin ANGB for some high-tech, joint interoperability training!

Airmen from both units rolled up their sleeves to share expertise on the Joint Incident Site Communications Capability (JISCC). From prepping Starlink satellite systems with magnetic mounts to configuring high-frequency radios, these comms specialists ensured that when the unexpected happens, the lines of communication stay wide open.

Because both states operate within FEMA Region 3, this joint training ensures seamless interoperability. By training together today, our Airmen guarantee a faster, more unified response to protect our communities tomorrow!

On Saturday, West Virginia Adjutant General Maj. Gen. James Seward addressed the Airmen of the 130th Airlift Wing. Gen. Seward outlined his priorities for the West Virginia National Guard, placing particular emphasis on lethality, mission readiness, the development of Airmen and fortifying the force to address future challenges. He also learned about the notable accomplishments of Airmen throughout the 130th AW and presented coins to several members in acknowledgment of their exceptional performance, professionalism, and dedication to the mission. These contributions reflect the commitment and excellence that distinguish the 130th Airlift Wing as a leading organization.

Yesterday, the 130th Airlift Wing recently held its Family Day event, organized by the 130th AW Community Action Team and the 130th Airman & Family Readiness group. Airmen and their families participated in various activities, including games and face painting, and enjoyed food provided by local food trucks from the Kanawha Valley. Families form the foundation of why we serve, and how we're able to serve, the state and nation in the West Virginia National Guard.

As we gear up for the Critical Days of Summer , it's time to talk about everyone's favorite warm-weather activity: GRILLING! 🍔🌭

Before you fire up the BBQ this weekend, please remember these key Air Force Safety guidelines:

✅ DO! Keep the grill 10+ feet away from the house and branches.

🚫 DON'T! Grill inside a garage, carport, tent or home.

🔥 DID YOU KNOW? During a recent five-year period, July proved to be the peak month for grill fires, followed by June, May and August.

Let's keep the flames strictly on the grill so we can all enjoy a safe and fun season!
