As I was writing my book; The Beauty of Sudan; The Untold Sorties of Resilience and Hope, I felt as if I was living through the past again, reliving the milestones of my life, the strength and resilience on which I have always drawn to keep going. I have survived genocide, poverty, and civil war. I was born in Darfur and fled with my family when Darfur’s government militia killed my father. But the government has not done with us yet, my husband and I were beaten, arrested, and tortured. We survived and fled the country using fake passports with my husband to freedom in France. We ended up homeless in Paris in winter. We filled out tons of Asylum seekers in more than one country in Europe, but all got rejected. We crossed the border into the UK. In England I found a life: I earned my master’s degree and got a job, a house, and a car. But the USA has a better chance for us, so we traveled to the land of the American dream. Again, I went back to Sudan, and sadly I witnessed the murder of my brother in the Khartoum massacre. I left for my wealthy life in the ‘first world’ – the US. But homesick again. I went back. I made it through the last Sudanese civil war. This is the story of every refugee out there who was forced to flee his/her home, seeking a better life. The world should know about our struggle. Please spread the word.

1. A Tale of a Survival from Darfur
1.1 El-Geneina ,Darfur:

Iman is an Arabic name stands for faith, commitment, and beliefs. Iman is a living example of how change is not only possible but also inescapable. Fate by chance brought me into contact with Iman in El-Geneina. Her radiant African features reflected the legacy of her family, as well as the wealth of stories woven by them.

I found myself caught up in the midst of a civil war not once, but three times. Each time I managed escape, I still found myself compelled to return to Sudan again. In this book I recounted my life’s journey.

My very first book of a survivor from Darfur will hit the market soon
