The Lincoln Fire Protection District was dispatched at 3:32 PM on Thursday for a smoke investigation near North Country Rd 1020E and 550N in Rural Coles County.

Arriving units found a pole barn-style building with smoke showing from the eaves. Evidence of fire was found in one of the walls that was quickly contained and extinguished. The building was ventilated and turned back over to the owners; the ignition source was undetermined, and damage was limited to a single wall.

All units were clear from the scene at 5:10 PM. The Lincoln Fire Protection District was assisted by Coles-Moultrie 911 - CECOM.

Today, August 18, 2026 is National Volunteer Firefighter Appreciation Day. Thank you to all the volunteer firefighters that leave their families and friends when the tones drop and they are called to duty. They are truly the unpaid professionals. A huge thanks to all the Volunteer Firefighters.

Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies at all hours, train year-round, and sacrifice time with their families to help others when they're needed most.

To every volunteer firefighter across the country: thank you for your courage, your commitment, and everything you do to keep your communities safe.

Tag a volunteer firefighter who deserves a shoutout. ❤️🚒

Now is a great time to check your smoke detectors and the dates! If you need a detector and live in the district we provide and install them for free, just send us a message.

🚨 August is here! 🚨

Yesterday was your monthly reminder to test your smoke alarms... 🙋 Show of hands who actually did it?

😳 ? 62% of Illinois home fire deaths occurred in homes without working smoke alarms or with alarms that weren't properly maintained.

A working smoke alarm isn't optional—it's often the difference between waking up and not waking up.

If you haven't tested yours yet, there's still time! It only takes a few minutes, and those few minutes could save your life and the lives of your loved ones.

✅ Test your smoke alarms monthly.
✅ Replace batteries as needed (if applicable).
✅ Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older.
