A little #𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 .⁣⁣⁣⁣

⚾️⁣⚾️⚾️⁣⁣⁣

The Cannon Street Little League
team, made up of 11 and 12 year old boys from the the Charleston area, worked hard to make it to the all-star baseball team in Spring of 1955.

𝘌𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘱.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝟼𝟷 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝐑𝐄𝐅𝐔𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴.⁣⁣⁣⁣

So, they became champions by default. The next step would've been for the Cannon Street players to advance to the regional tournament in Rome, Georgia. From there, the finalists would go to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.⁣⁣⁣⁣

But the Cannon Street All-stars 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 got a chance to play; instead, they were prohibited from playing because they had advanced to the World Series by forfeit. So these 11 and 12 year olds watched from the stands as the crowd shouted on their behalf, "𝐋𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐘!"

They never did play.⁣⁣⁣⁣

That same year southern whites
split ⁣⁣⁣⁣completely from Little League baseball and formed a completely independent and segregated baseball youth league called Little Boys⁣⁣⁣⁣

Baseball now known as the #𝐃𝐢𝐱𝐢𝐞𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞. 😒

⁣⁣⁣By the way, the same day that the all-stars traveled home, August 28th, news spread of another injustice done to a Black teen; this time with death the end result. That teen's death and the circumstances surrounding his brutal murder would go on to capture national attention, his name was 𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐥𝐥.⁣⁣⁣⁣
