PDS employs 22 persons dedicated to the following functions: (i) operating an appellate advocacy division to represent indigent defendants in appeals before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia; (ii) processing the vouchers of court appointed counsel for payment; (iii) managing the grants funding the operations of 18 public defender corporations; and (iv) operating a criminal law research center on behalf of criminal defense lawyers generally.
