Our Director, Rochelle Riley, recently traveled to Scotland alongside City Councilmember Mike Seekings and leaders from Spoleto Festival USA and Charleston’s arts community to experience the Edinburgh and Fringe festivals. The trip sparked exciting ideas for future collaborations, opportunities for Charleston artists, and new ways to strengthen the arts in our city. We look forward to seeing what’s ahead!

Grab a paintbrush and help bring a new mural to life at Mitchell Playground! 🎨

The community is invited to join Charleston Westside and the M.A.R.S.H. Project for a Community Painting Day on September 1 from 5–8 p.m. Come out, add your touch to the mural and enjoy an evening of music, food, art and activities for the kids.

This project is part of the City of Charleston’s Love Your Block program, supported by Bloomberg’s Center for Public Innovation.

A new mural at Homel Place is bringing a piece of neighborhood history to life. 🎨

Created by artist Taylor Faulkner, the mural depicts a child who once preached on the street alongside animals inspired by nearby Hampton Park.

The project was truly a community effort, with 51 volunteers, two Charleston City Councilmembers and neighborhood children coming together to help bring the space to life.

Join the community Monday, August 31 from 7–8 a.m. for coffee and food, see the finished mural, and meet muralist Taylor Faulkner and Bobbi of Buds Charleston.

The Homel Place mural was made possible in part through the City of Charleston’s Love Your Block program, supported by Bloomberg’s Center for Public Innovation.

Calling all singers! 🎶

The Charleston Men’s Chorus is holding open auditions for its upcoming season on Monday, August 31 from 6–7 p.m. at St. Philip’s Church.

Men ages 18+ who enjoy singing are invited to audition. No prepared piece is required, but advance registration is required to reserve an audition time.
