We’re excited to welcome Darin Virag as the new Public Service Training Coordinator with Mountain State ESC!

Darin brings over 25 years of experience in emergency services and a strong background in EMS, fire service, and law enforcement training. He’s also no stranger to Sissonville Fire School, having taught here in the past, and we’ve always appreciated the knowledge and experience he brings to the classroom.

We’re looking forward to continuing to work alongside him and building even stronger training opportunities for our members and community. Congratulations, Darin, and welcome to the team! 🚒👏

Darin serves as a Public Service Training Coordinator for Mountain State ESC. He instructs public service training courses, including EMS, Fire Service, Law Enforcement, and other programs as needed. He has over 25 years of emergency service experience. He received a BS in Biology from the University of Charleston and is currently pursuing his MS in Adult Education at Marshall University. Welcome to the team, Darin!

🚨 Big Announcement from Sissonville Fire School

We just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has supported us over the years… students, instructors, and our amazing community. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.

After a lot of thought, we’ve decided… this will be our LAST year running Sissonville Fire School.

We know, it’s tough news. We’re gonna miss it…

Over the weekend, the Hackworth Fire Collection captured some great moments from the Rope Rescue Technician class during the 20th Annual Sissonville Fire & Rescue School. This hands-on class gave students the opportunity to sharpen critical technical rescue skills, working through rope systems, patient packaging, and real-world rescue scenarios under the guidance of experienced instructors.

We’re incredibly thankful to the Hackworth Fire Collection for helping document the training and preserving these moments from another successful year of the school.

🚒🔥 Final Day of the 20th Annual Sissonville Fire & Rescue School 🔥🚒

Today marks the final day of the 20th Annual Sissonville Fire & Rescue School, and what an incredible year it has been! This year we welcomed approximately 800 students from across West Virginia and several other states who came together to train, learn, and strengthen the fire service.

Reaching 20 years of this event is a huge accomplishment, and it would not be possible without the amazing support from so many people. We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this another successful year — our donors, sponsors, vendors, instructors, the Fire School Committee, Kanawha County Commission, and everyone else who works behind the scenes to make this event happen. Your support keeps this school growing year after year.

Thank you to everyone who traveled near and far to attend, train, and support this event. We’re proud to host this training for the fire service and look forward to continuing the tradition for many years to come.
