McLeod Plantation Historic Site

A preserved sea island cotton plantation w/ guided tours exploring the original slave quarters, main house, and the significant history present here.

Today McLeod is a 37-acre park open to the public and is recognized as a significant historic site most notably for exploring Gullah Geechee culture. Visitors are offered guided tours of the grounds including six original slave quarters and the McLeod family home.

Visitors to McLeod Plantation Historic Site now have a new opportunity to step deeper into the layered history of the property. Following a recent stabilization effort, the site’s historic dairy building is now open to visitors, offering guests a closer look into what life was like on the site throughout its history.

This past weekend, McLeod Plantation Historic Site hosted Jack and Jill of America during their National Youth Trip to Charleston.

Three engaging stations were set up including learning more about healing herbs, taking guided tours, and storytelling with Julian Gooding. It was a wonderful experience sharing knowledge with the children and their parents!

As part of an ongoing effort between the Charleston County Parks planning and maintenance teams, six acres of wildflowers and grasses were planted last week in the McLeod Plantation Historic Site field along Folly Road.

The seeds were purchased and donated by the Charleston County Parks Foundation. Our hope is that the field will provide native pollinators, birds and other wildlife a home while also giving McLeod Plantation Historic Site visitors with a space to stroll after a tour.

We hosted a wonderful Gullah Doll Making Workshop on December 5th.

The program was part of the cultural history arts series which is funded by the Charleston County Parks Foundation. Attendees traveled from as far away as Myrtle Beach and it was a wonderful day spent celebrating culture and community.
