🚨 Coming soon to John's Island! 🚨

Construction is officially underway for the new Charleston Fire Department Station 23, located at the corner of Wildst Battery and Main Road on John’s Island. 🏗️🚒

Once completed, Station 23 will be the permanent home for Ladder 106 and Engine 123—bringing quicker response times and extra peace of mind to our John’s Island residents and visitors. 🧑‍🚒❤️

Check out construction progress in this series of photos beginning in August of 2025, and keep an eye out for updates!

Thinking about an electric bike or scooter for the summer? 🚲🛴

They’re a blast to ride, but don't forget that the lithium-ion batteries powering them need a little extra care. If they aren't used properly, they can overheat, catch fire, or explode.

Keep your summer rides safe with these essential tips:

🛑 The Right Gear: Only buy devices, batteries, and chargers certified by a nationally recognized testing lab (look for the UL label!). Always stick to the manufacturer's instructions.
🔌 Smart Charging: Only use the battery and charger that came with your device. Don’t leave them plugged in after they’re fully charged.
☀️ Watch the Temp: Store batteries at room temperature. Never charge them below 32°F or above 105°F, and keep them out of direct sunlight or hot cars.
🚪 Keep Paths Clear: Never store your e-bike, scooter, or battery in exit paths, under stairs, or near heat sources. Keep them away from kids and liquids.
♻️ Dispose of Safely: Never toss lithium-ion batteries in the trash!

📍 Charleston residents: You can take your old lithium-ion batteries to the Bees Ferry Landfill (1344 Bees Ferry Rd).

⚓️ This month, members of the Charleston Fire Department Marine Division and the Charleston Metro Marine Unit hosted and participated in the National Association of State Boating Law Adminstrators (NASBLA's) Boat Operator Search and Rescue (BOSAR) Course here in Charleston. Over five days, students from multiple agencies trained together on advanced boat operations, search and rescue tactics, crew coordination, risk management, and real-world maritime response scenarios.
This course continues to strengthen the operational readiness and interoperability of our regional maritime response partners while maintaining the Charleston Metro Marine Unit’s NASBLA accreditation standards. Training opportunities like this are critical to ensuring our crews are prepared to respond safely and effectively to emergencies on the water.
A huge thank you to all of the local instructors, partner agencies, and students who dedicated their time and effort throughout the week. The professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration displayed during this course are exactly what makes the maritime public safety community so strong.🛥️

Empowering the next generation of lifesavers! 🚨❤️

Our Outreach Team recently visited Stall High School, where they trained approximately 100 incredible students in Hands-Only CPR and Stop the Bleed techniques.

In an emergency, every second counts. We are so proud of these students for stepping up, learning these critical skills, and taking action to make their community safer.

Thank you, Stall High School, for having us! 🎒🙌
