Since the beginning of her term in January 2019, Goodwin prioritized fiscal accountability, and efficient processes, fairness and forward-thinking policies and programming. In her first few months, Goodwin launched a comprehensive strategy focused on demolition and rehabilitation of dilapidated houses and buildings, strengthening the city’s vacant structure registry and creating a new Land Reuse A
gency to help rehabilitate properties for new uses. Goodwin also worked collaboratively to establish a partnership between her new Mayor’s Coordinated Addiction Response Effort (C.A.R.E.) and the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute at the University of Charleston to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to addressing substance use disorder. Most recently, Goodwin established the Charleston Youth Council to engage and motivate the next generation of city leaders.
