🔍🌄OIG in the Field: What Do Quality Control Reviewers Do?

Have you ever wondered what happens when a SNAP, Medical Assistance, or WV CHIP case is selected for a Quality Control review?

Quality Control Reviewers play an important role in helping ensure benefit decisions are accurate, fair, and consistent. Their work helps confirm that individuals and families receive the correct level of assistance while identifying opportunities to improve programs and customer service. ✅

Each month, cases are randomly selected for review. If your case is chosen, a reviewer may contact you by phone or letter to explain the process and request information related to your benefits. This may include documents such as proof of income, housing costs, utility expenses, or dependent care expenses.
🔹Quality Control Reviewers are not investigating recipients for fraud.
🔹They review eligibility decisions to ensure federal and state requirements were followed correctly.
🔹Their findings help improve program operations, reduce errors, and strengthen accountability.

By evaluating benefit determinations and reporting findings to the appropriate agencies, Quality Control Reviewers help ensure public resources are used responsibly while supporting the West Virginians who rely on these essential programs.

Protecting program integrity means helping ensure the right benefits reach the right people at the right time. 💙💛

🐻🌄 Happy National Black Bear Day, West Virginia! 🌄🐻

From our mountain hollows to our forest trails, the black bear is a treasured symbol of the Mountain State and a reminder of the incredible wildlife that calls West Virginia home. 💙💛

Did you know? The black bear was chosen as West Virginia’s official State Animal through a statewide poll of students, teachers, and sportsmen in 1954 and 1955, and was officially adopted by the Legislature in 1973. 🐾

As we celebrate this iconic part of our Appalachian heritage, remember these important Bear Wise safety tips:

🍎 Never feed or approach bears
🗑️ Secure food, garbage, and recycling
🐦 Remove bird feeders when bears are active
🐶 Never leave pet food outdoors
🔥 Clean and store grills after use
📢 Alert neighbors to bear activity

Black bears are wild animals, and helping them stay wild keeps both bears and people safe. 🌲💙

🌄Wild & Wonderful Wednesday: Almost Heaven, Always Serving🌄

💙💛From the mountains to the small towns and everywhere in between, West Virginians deserve programs and services that work with honesty, accountability, and care. That is why teams across the Office of Inspector General are working every day throughout the Mountain State to protect resources, support families, investigate fraud and abuse, ensure quality care, and help connect people with the services they need.

Whether it is advocating for children and vulnerable adults, reviewing benefits for accuracy, inspecting healthcare facilities, protecting civil rights, or helping improve government programs, the work being done helps strengthen communities across West Virginia.

Serving West Virginians is more than a responsibility. It is a commitment to making a positive difference for individuals, families, and future generations through our state. ✨

Together, we are helping make good government better for the people of West Virginia.

Fraud does not just impact programs. It impacts people. 💔

When public assistance fraud, healthcare fraud, or misuse of government resources happens, it takes away from the services and support that West Virginians rely on every day. It can mean fewer resources for children, families, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those who truly need help.

Fraud also increases costs, slows services, and damages trust in programs designed to protect and support our communities. Every dollar lost to fraud, waste, or abuse is a dollar that cannot be used to help a West Virginia family in need. 💙💛

Protecting taxpayer resources helps ensure programs remain strong, effective, and available for the people who depend on them. Through oversight, investigations, accountability, and education, the Office of Inspector General works every day to help make government work better for West Virginians. 🏛️

If you suspect fraud, waste, or abuse, speak up. Your voice can help protect vital services and support families across our state.

💜June is Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month💜

More than 55 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. While there is currently no single definitive test for Alzheimer's, early awareness and ongoing brain health support can make a meaningful difference for individuals and families.

Keeping your brain active and engaged is important at every age. Activities that help strengthen brain connections include:
🧠Learning a new language
🎶Playing a musical instrument
🎨Crafts and hands on hobbies
✍️Practicing writing with your non-dominant hand
🧘Focused relaxation like mediation, prayer, or listening to music

Supporting brain health is part of supporting healthier communities across West Virginia. Raising awareness helps encourage understanding, compassion, and access to resources for individuals and families navigating these challenges every day.

Go purple this month to show your support for Alzheimer's & Brain Health Awareness Month! 💜

🌟Inspiring the next generation of public servants!🌟

Last Friday, the Foster Care Ombudsman Division participated in the Pathways to Success Expo at Point Pleasant Jr. Sr. High School, joining 35 businesses and organizations to connect with nearly 300 seventh and eighth grade students.

Students were curious, engaged, and excited to learn about career opportunities in public service and the important work being done to support children, individuals, and families across West Virginia by the Office of Inspector General. Many stopped by the Office of Inspector General table to ask questions about advocacy, accountability, oversight, and how these roles help make a positive difference in people's lives. 💙💛

One of the highlights of the day was our "Your Voice Matter" activity. Students shared thoughtful messages about kindness, leadership, helping others, and speaking up for what is right. 🗣️✨ Their participation showed just how powerful young voices can be in creating positive change in their communities.

Several students also shared personal experiences involving foster care, placements, and adoption. These meaningful conversations reinforced the importance of advocacy, permanency, and ensuring every young person feels heard, supported, and valued.

Events like this help build awareness about careers dedicated to serving others while empowering students to serving others while empowering students to see how they can make an impact right here in West Virginia. Connecting with young people today helps strengthen the future of our communities tomorrow. 🌄

Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success!
