Yikes: I have been very disappointed in the DeLongi machine I purchased six months ago. Not working now, and customer service has been hell to deal with. Up to 27 min on hold and no one to take my call x 3 times; Email takes on average 4 days for a reply and responses are in circles.

Unreasonable asks and questions that nail the problem on the head, so I know there is a systemic problem with the machine failing, not making a full cup of coffee or espresso and leaking all over the place. Trying to get them to take it back, fix it or whatever is impossible. I purchased a competitor's model that is more analogue and much better. Going to have to cough this up to a $700 loss.

I would not recommend this company for any devices, horrible customer service, and endless frustration. They should do much better, maybe the conflomerate DeLong/Kenwood/Braun just got too big for their pants. I want my purchases to last six years not six months. Also CS is so important for companies you deal with. Sad that DeLongi w/ Braun w/ Kenwood is too big for their pants it would seem.

Sad story about a great doctor in Africa who recently passed away (su***de) after being bullied by many who disagreed with her treatments and lifesaving interventions over the past few years. She was reported to her medical board 27 times. It became too much for her to handle as the evil ones took all she had away from her.

She felt alone and took her life after despairing that not much could be done to fix all the wrongs. There are mean, evil and ignorant people out there attacking good doctors trying to do the right thing for their patients.

I pray like many in my circle do that the evil seed that has taken over the hearts, minds and souls of those horrid people will be plucked from them by God, and they will see the light and repent for the wrongs they have done, the damage they have caused and the deaths they are responsible for.

Radical Zealots who should be arrested for crimes against art. These crazy WOKE people need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law (by law abiding citizens and our process).

I am OK with folks voicing opinions on ANY matter publicly without destroying property. This is so childish, and these vandals need to be held accountable. If they had done this at an EXXON oil refinery they would have been promptly arrested and be in jail somewhere now. Oh, and how did they get to the Museum? Probably used some fossil fuel vehicles one way or another to get there. Hypocrites all of them.

Three Just Stop Oil activists threw soup at two of Vincent van Gogh's "Sunflowers" paintings in London's National Gallery on Friday (September 27), just hours after two other members of the protest group were jailed for doing the same thing in 2022. Angela Johnston has more.

One of my HERO doctors. We probably all hear of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis from Austria-Hungary and his hand-washing campaign for doctors that brought him under fire. But many have probably not heard of Dr. Hammond. Here is a short historical piece on this American physician that many of us owe some gratitude and thanks.

11th Surgeon General of the U.S. Army; Father of American Neurology; Deplatformed, Court-martialed and finally regaining his Reputation.

I listened to most of the JRE show with Howard, but it was painful as he came across as mentally unstable and weird. And then I saw this response by Tyson and was relieved to know I was not the only one who had issues with what was said on the show. The hubris of a person over critical of other luminaries in science reminded me of some particular ''Mr. Science" who discredited other highly regarded researchers, scientists and clinicians for theories and beliefs on best treatment options and course for a pandemic response. Now one can see the parallel between Fauci and Howard from a different angle.

SCPFF announces an Event:

Join us on Friday, May 31st at 6:30 pm for fun, food, lively conversation, and a silent auction as we kickoff our new initiative, South Carolina Physicians for Freedom!

Meet the brave doctors fighting for medical freedom in South Carolina and hear how they are restoring the doctor/patient relationship.

This evening event will be held at a private residence in Spartanburg, SC. It will be catered by Austin Yancey, who, before moving back to his home state of South Carolina, spent years training as a competitive cook and worked at world-renowned Aliena, a 3-star Michelin restaurant in Chicago. After leaving Alinea, Chef Austin joined the Culinary Instructor team at Le Cordon Bleu and created the school's first competition cooking club. He now resides in the upstate and is the founding CEO of Elite Personal Chefs. In addition to catering this event, he will be auctioning off a privately catered 8-person dinner. You don't want to miss it!

Our guest speaker will be Tonya Shellnutt. Tonya Shellnutt serves as Senior State Government Relations Director at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the largest religious liberty advocacy organization in the world. ADF exists to advance the God-given right to live and speak the Truth. As Senior State Government Relations Director, Tonya oversees and directs the State Government Relations team to advocate and support the positions of ADF on governmental policies and legislation and has testified on behalf of ADF on key bills. She regularly meets with state policy allies, legislators, and other stakeholders to discuss public policy and strategy to bring about generational wins.

Prior to joining ADF, Shellnutt was a small business owner for 15 years and served as State Director for Concerned Women for America in both Montana and in South Carolina where she focused on faith and family public policy issues. Tonya was appointed as the first female to serve on the Montana Christian College board. She is an accomplished author and an inspirational speaker. Tonya and her husband Rich, have been married for 29 years and have five children. We are thrilled to have her join us!

What is Green Coffee?
January 27, 2023 from PURITY blog

Green Coffee Ready for Roasting
The funny thing about the coffee industry is that it uses common terms that make sense to those within the industry, but when we think about them, these terms can actually be really confusing (especially when they pertain to commodity trading, but that’s the subject of a different post).

For example, when we talk about green beans…
We mean these:
Purity Coffee Green Beans
Not these:
Green Beans (veggie)

We use other terms that, in general usage, give a different impression than what we mean with coffee: parchment, pulp, honey, and natural.

Let’s get into one of the most essential questions that can help you understand differences in coffees that impact taste and health. Answering this question and other questions will also set the stage for a broader awareness of the complexities involved with studying coffee and its impact on health.

First, by understanding the coffee plant, we can understand processing and then what “honey” coffee is.

What exactly are “Green Coffees” or “Green Beans”?
Green coffee is the dried seed of the coffee fruit from the coffee plant.

Coffee plants are grown in the equatorial belt, and the species called arabica is grown at higher altitudes in this zone. The plants normally flower annually, although biennial bearing is common - every other year is a big crop.

Depending on the cultivar, the plants produce different colored fruits that resemble cranberries. Red is the most common.

Ripe Red Coffee Cherries
Ripe coffee fruit. Commonly called “cherry”.

Inside the fruit one, two (most common), or sometimes 3 seeds develop. The seeds have a very thin membrane surrounding them, which is called silverskin. This silverskin is very high in polyphenols–a powerful antioxidant and just one of the many healthful compounds found in coffee. There is also an additional protective layer, called parchment, which must be removed before roasting.

Green Coffee Parchment and Silverskin
Above: Partially hulled off parchment reveals the bean with a thin silverskin layer attached. The coffee must then be dried below 12% moisture before it can be bagged for export.

Green Coffee Seed
Above: Washed seed—the pulp and pectin removed. It is now dry with a soft protect shell—the parchment layer.

Coating the parchment is a layer of pectin, called “mucilage” - make note of this, because it comes into play later in this series of articles. The mucilage is covered in pulp, and all of this is encased in the coffee skin. The mucilage is a shiny, smooth layer, full of sugar and very sticky.

Coffee Seed Pulp and Pectin

Above: Coffee seeds with skin removed, but pulp and pectin still coating them.

As seen in the photos, green coffee “beans” are seeds of the coffee plant.

Green Coffee
Above: Clean, dried “green coffee beans”, or simply, “green coffee” ready to roast.

During the roast, the silverskin will dry, turn pale brown and flake away. It is then referred to as chaff.

Because colloquially they are referred to as “beans” (botanically, though, they are not beans), we will use “beans” and “seeds” to mean the same thing - the green coffee that is a dry, raw food product that is normally roasted before it can be consumed by customers. More recently, health labs are extracting compounds from green coffee to use as an ingredient in drinks and supplements, among other things.

The quality of green coffee varies widely depending on species and where and how it was grown. In terms of species, arabica in general is higher cup (flavors and tastes) quality than robusta, although there are a number of producers who are growing good quality robustas. Differences in cultivars and growing conditions, like climate, soil, elevation, surrounding environment, and agricultural practices generate coffees that are markedly different from each other.

Coffee can also be processed in different ways, which ultimately affects how coffee roasts, as well as its taste and health compounds. This will be the subject of next week’s article, so stay tuned…
