After earning a degree in mathematics and building a career in business, Emily DeTomaso made the decision to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Inspired by her own experiences with PT and seeing firsthand the profound impact it had on her brother’s recovery from a TBI, she felt drawn to make a difference in the lives of others, too.

Now a 2026 MUSC DPT graduate, Emily is preparing for a neurologic physical therapy residency at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Her advice for anyone considering a second career in PT? "It is never too late."

Nurse anesthesia demands a high level of clinical skill, judgment and preparation.

At the MUSC College of Health Professions, students in the Anesthesia for Nurses (AFN) program develop those skills through a curriculum that brings together evidence-based education, experience and simulation.

In the lab, students can practice anesthesia techniques, respond to clinical scenarios and strengthen their decision-making in a controlled environment as they prepare for patient care.

What happens when learning moves beyond the classroom? 👶💬

Through Project SPARKLE, MUSC SLP students are gaining hands-on experience in early intervention — working directly with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with high-intensity needs. The program prepares them to deliver thoughtful, family-centered care across disciplines and settings, expanding the role of speech-language pathology in early childhood rehabilitation.
