Mississippi County Library District Mississippi County Library District in Charleston and East Prairie, Missouri The headquarters in Charleston also serves as a regional genealogy center.

The Mississippi County Library District, established in 1945, is located in Southeast Missouri adjacent to the Mississippi River, and consists of the Clara Drinkwater Newnam Library in Charleston and the Mitchell Memorial Branch Library in East Prairie. The library offers a variety of services to help meet the information needs of residents. In 1994 the library in Charleston received a $575,000 gi

ft from the trustees of the Clara Newnam estate to purchase a site and construct a 7,500 square foot building. The new building offers a meeting room for clubs and organizations and public access computers connected to the Internet for all county residents to utilize.

The Charleston branch hosted a total of 141 young readers during our Summer Reading Program kickoff on June 8! Huge thank you to Mary Jane Whitehead for digging into the stories and activities at all 4 sessions!

We were so excited to see so many old friends and several new faces during our programs. Thanks to our children and families who came to our kickoff program and to Hearnes Elementary, Charleston Middle School, and Loving Arms Daycare for bringing your students and kids to the library!!
