A BURN BAN for Franklin County goes into effect Friday morning, August 7, 2026, at 08:00 AM.

However, we urge all citizens to refrain from any burning for the rest of today as fuel moisture is very low and most grasses will now easily ignite.

CFD was dispatched to the area of Sandstone Ridge Road at approximately 2:00 p.m. for a hay bales and grass fire. Charleston Fire Department was assisted by the Oak Bend/Etna Fire Department, and together crews quickly extinguished the fire. Fortunately, no equipment or structures were damaged.

At 10:24, CFD was dispatched to a single-vehicle accident near the intersection of Potts Rd. and Hwy. 217.

The driver was able to walk away from the accident and was not seriously injured.

Please be careful out there, folks, and remember to slow down and stay alert while traveling.

⚠️ Attention! ⚠️

Even though the grass and woods look green, and conditions may seem safe for burning, don't be so sure. If you decide to burn, have a plan in place. Make sure water is readily available, and clear brush and other debris away from the fire or keep it at a safe distance. One unexpected gust of wind can cause a fire to get out of hand in a hurry.

Today at approximately 4:30 p.m., Charleston Fire Department was dispatched to the Valley Creek Road area for a reported brush fire. Upon arrival, crews requested assistance from the Arkansas Forestry Division. The fire was spreading rapidly and had begun climbing into the treetops. Forestry crews quickly established a fire line, helping stop the fire before it could spread to nearby property.

Please use extreme caution with any outdoor burning. A few extra minutes of preparation can prevent the loss of homes, property, and timber.

July 4, 2026 | Charleston's Annual Fireworks Show 🇺🇸🎆

A big thank you to the City of Charleston, Skyler Estates, and Greenhurst for putting this incredible event together every year. It takes a lot of hard work to make it happen, and it's appreciated by the whole community.

And if you're wondering where the best seat in the house is... I can assure you it's right underneath the fire works.

5/18/2026 Monday’s fire meeting the CFD trained on how to set up a portable pool system to dump tanker water and draft water from the pool into a pumper. This is an effective method used in rural areas where water supplies and hydrants are limited, allowing us to maintain a constant water flow to our crews so they can fight fires effectively.

Once the pool is set up, our tankers, along with mutual aid department tankers, can continuously shuttle water from the nearest source to keep the pool full.

It’s training like this that these men and women volunteer for every 2nd and 3rd Monday of the month to ensure we remain an effective team in protecting the Charleston community and our neighboring communities.

Charleston & Branch Fire & Rescue just completed a 40-hour First Responder course. The class was both informative and engaging. Big thanks to Tyler English, Zachary English, and Kyle Eveld for putting this together.
