City of Charlestown Mayor Treva Hodges shared with staff this morning that she will step down from her role as mayor, effective Monday, Nov. 30, 2026.
Over the coming month, Mayor Hodges will remain in office to assist in the transition to an interim mayor, who will be selected through a caucus of the Clark County Democratic Party. The next mayoral election is slated for 2027.
“Together we have accomplished some truly remarkable achievements. I am deeply honored to have served as your mayor through our revival,” said Mayor Hodges.
Hodges said it is time to take on a new challenge, which she plans to announce at a later date.

Never leave fi****ms unsecured- proper storage prevents theft and accidental injuries.

Key Rules for Safe Storage

• Unload fi****ms: Always remove all am******on from the chamber and magazine before storing.
• Use locking devices: Secure weapons with cable locks, trigger locks, lock boxes, or a sturdy gun safe.
• Separate am******on: Store bullets in a locked, separate location away from the fi***rm.
• Restrict access: Keep keys, safe combinations, and biometric codes hidden and out of the reach of children or visitors.
• Secure vehicles: Never leave a gun visible or unsecured in a car, glove box, or console; use a bolted-in lock box if transport is necessary.

Parking in well-lit, high-visibility areas lowers the risk of vehicle theft, break-ins, and personal assault by removing the darkness that criminals rely on for concealment.

Key Safety Benefits:

• Deterrence: Bright illumination increases the likelihood that offenders will be seen or identified, making your car a less attractive target.
• Natural Surveillance: High-traffic, visible spots allow pedestrians, security personnel, and law enforcement to monitor the area more easily.
• Reduced Blind Spots: Positioning your vehicle near active streetlights or building lights eliminates hidden recesses where property crime thrives.

Best Practices for Vehicle Security:

• Choose Activity over Convenience: Park closer to building entrances or active pathways rather than in dark, distant corners of a lot.
• Remove Valuables: Take all bags, electronics, and small items with you, or lock them completely out of sight in the trunk before you arrive.
• Lock and Secure: Always lock your doors, roll up windows completely, and take your key fob with you.

Posting vacation plans or real-time updates on social media alerts thieves that your house is empty and increases your risk of a break-in.

Key Risks of Sharing Travel Online:

• Unoccupied Home Signals: Live check-ins, countdowns, and "day three of our trip" posts tell bad actors your home is sitting vacant.
• AI and Data Scraping: Automated tools and criminals can aggregate public profiles, geotags, and travel photos to build a list of target homes.
• Scams and Phishing: Publicly shared boarding passes, flight numbers, or hotel names allow scammers to impersonate travel staff and demand fake fees over the phone.
• Insurance Complications: Some insurance providers may review digital activity or deny claims if public posts show negligence during a break-in.

How to Protect Your Home:

• Wait Until You Return: Post your vacation photos and stories only after you are safely back home.
• Turn Off Geolocation: Disable GPS tracking and strip location data from photos before sharing anything online.
• Audit Your Privacy Settings: Keep your profiles set to private and limit who can view your posts, though remember information can still leak from public or semi-private lists.
• Keep Travel Details Vague: Avoid sharing exact return dates, house numbers, or neighborhood landmarks.
