West Mecklenburg Fire Department The West Mecklenburg Fire Department is located on the west side of Mecklenburg County.

Our service area surrounds the Interstates 85 and 485 interchange with a mix of industrial and residential properties.

This morning, West Mecklenburg responded with mutual aid from Belmont and Steele Creek Fire Departments to a reported explosion inside a commercial business on Wilkinson Blvd. Crews found a small explosion had occurred inside the facility involved a decommissioned holding tank. Charlotte Fire Department Hazmat Team assisted with mitigating the incident and MEDIC treated one patient on scene.

Overnight, Squad 2 and Rescue 1 responded to a vehicle accident involving an overturned tractor-trailer on I-85 near I-485.

West Mecklenburg crews were first to arrive and found the tractor-trailer down an embankment, and into a wooded area. Firefighters quickly accessed the vehicle and located a single occupant trapped inside the cab. Charlotte Fire Department crews also responded to assist with the incident. Unfortunately this accident resulted in a fatality.

Squad 2 and Charlotte Engine 21 were originally dispatched to I-485 for a reported smoke investigation. While responding, crews located a working house fire and immediately upgraded the assignment.

Yesterday, West Meck Squad 2, Tanker 4, Rescue 2, Chief 9, Chief 10, Car 12, and Car 13 responded on the initial assignment to assist with a multi-alarm apartment fire. Crews arrived to find heavy fire showing throughout all three floors of a 3-story apartment building. West Meck 9 was the suppression group supervisor.

This afternoon West Meck Engine 1, Tanker 4 and Chief 10 responded to for a working house fire. Units arrived to find a storage building with extension to the home. West Meck members pulled a 2nd hand line and the Tanker handled water supply.

4/29/26 Yesterday afternoon Engine 1 went first due for a working fire. West Meck Engine 1 arrived to find a commercial building with smoke showing. Truck 34 was at West Meck station and arrived with the Engine. 3 workers were on the roof of the building when units arrived. Steele Creek FD, Mount Holly FD, Belmont FD and West Meck all responded.
