Today is National Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day! This day was first recognized by Congress and President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

How do members of Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue celebrate? Well, by training of course! FF's Jessica Sawyer and Doran Huckins led this month's pump training.

I would like to take a minute to say Thank You to all volunteer firefighters for your dedication and service to your communities. It takes a special breed of volunteers to drop everything at the sound of a tone and respond to an emergency. One minute you may be at work, at your child's sporting event, sitting down for supper or snuggled into a nice comfy bed and the next minute you are at a structure fire, wildland fire, storm response, accident or medical emergency.

I need to give a special Thank you to all the Volunteer Firefighters at Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue. I couldn't ask for a better crew. You all make me proud every day. Keep up the good work and know that I and your community appreciate you today and every day.

The members of Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue are proud to serve our neighbors, and today we're grateful for State Farm and National Volunteer Fire Council for serving us. Thanks to the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, we received a $10,000 grant to buy much needed communications equipment. This means better safety for our firefighters and better service for you.

We were 1 of 150 fire departments across the nation and 1 of 4 in Maine selected for this grant. Thank you State Farm and National Volunteer Fire Council! We really appreciate the help.

On July 11th and 12th four of our firefighters attended a basic pumps class sponsored by the Calais Fire Department through Maine Fire Service Institute. Thank you to both Calais Fire and MFSI for putting on this training.

Firefighters Jessica Sawyer, Doran Huckins, Noah Curtis and John Sawyer attended.

Tonight Noah and John led a pump training session at the Charlotte Fire Station to share some of what they learned and added their own little spin to it.

Next month Jess and Doran will take their turn to do some training with the rest of the department.

I also would like to give a shout out to Jess, John and Doran for repainting the station floor. It was a huge task but they were definitely up for the challenge.

I am super proud of all our firefighters and am so grateful for the younger ones stepping up to learn new skills. I know someday when us older firefighters start retiring we will be leaving the department in good hands. Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone,

As the 4th of July Holiday weekend approaches we would like to remind everyone of the high heat and humid conditions forecast for the rest of the week. Be aware of heat-related illnesses for yourself and those around you.

Also please be careful with fireworks, sparklers and camp fires. Be sure only a responsible sober adult is in charge of lighting fireworks and tending campfires. Be sure all are completely extinguished before leaving.

Don't forget about your pets. They too can suffer from heat-related illnesses and can be scared of fireworks.

We would much rather you visit with friends and family than getting a visit from our firefighters.
But if you should need us dial 911.

We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Poland Spring for their generous donation of bottled spring water to Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Meddybemps Volunteer Fire Department.

We would also like to thank Firefighter Doran Huckins and Lt. Mike Perkins for making the 7 hour round trip to Poland,ME to pick it up. Doran provided the truck and trailer as well. Thank you Gentlemen!

Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue members spent their evening attending a Hazmat Ops Refresher. Thank you to Scott Luciano from Specialty Response Solutions for another great class. Thank you to all firefighters who attended and a special shout out to our EMS director/firefighter Jessica Sawyer for feeding us all. It was a nice surprise!

The members of Charlotte Volunteer Fire & Rescue give our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the Firefighter who died battling a fire in Searsmont, ME yesterday.
We also keep the firefighters who were injured in our thoughts and prayers and wish them all a speedy recovery.
Hearing a Firefighter calling Mayday on a fire scene is heart dropping. Hearing multiple Mayday's being called by multiple firefighters is extremely heart breaking.
Please pray for these brave firefighters, their families and their communities. God Bless Them All!
