As Charlotte has expanded throughout Mecklenburg County we have been fortunate to still be able to serve our community in conjunction with Charlotte Fire Department. Our primary response area extends from the Catawba River on HWY 27 and along Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd. when going East-to-West. North-to-South we serve Mountain Island Lake, South on HWY 16 and down Pleasant Grove Rd. CCVFD's membership consists of firefighters, EMTs, as well as a SCUBA dive team to respond to calls on the lake. As of August 2011 we have the following apparatus: Engine 1 Engine 2 Rescue 12 Brush 6 Boat1 Boat2 We also are proud to assist Long Creek VFD and West Mecklenburg VFD here in Mecklenburg County. We also will run into Gaston County to assist Mount Holly Fire, and Lucia Riverbend VFD. In some special circumstances our apparatus will travel away from our area. For example, tanker support, and dive-team support.

Due to the GREAT SUPPORT of the community, there has been further consideration as it pertains to closing the doors of Cooks VFD at the end of the year. We have maintained constant discussion and are excited to say that we will be funded into 2021 at a minimum. We plan to continue to drive home how important our station is to our community and we know that we have the continued support of everyone around us! It is our goal to have Cooks VFD around for another 67 years!!! Again we thank everyone for their support and although this is a continued battle, it would not be possible without our community!

Tomorrow is the big day!!! We need all the support we can get to show everyone why we deserve to keep our doors open! I am asking everybody in the community and surrounding area to please show up to the government center tomorrow at 6pm and tell the county commissioners just how much you want Cooks VFD to keep responding to your homes, protecting your lake, and being role models to your children. This is our community to protect! The commissioners want to hear the community voice their opinions and I am positive that once that happens they will understand just how much the department means to the area. There is power in numbers!!!! Again that is tomorrow night 3/10/20 at 6pm in the government center (600 E 4th St in uptown) room 267. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email @[email protected] thank you for all of your continued to support and #CooksVfdIsHereToStay

Cooks FD reminds you to spring forward on Sunday March 8th at 2am (Saturday night into Sunday morning).

When you are done changing all of your clocks, change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If your detectors are more than 7-10 years old, consider replacing them.

Please remember, smoke detectors that are already hardwired and interconnected must be replaced with the same; they cannot go to a battery-only detector.

Please see attached flyer in reference to the meeting on March 10, 2020.

Good Evening

Here is an update to the Director of LUESA's recommendation to defund us, and leave thousands without adequate emergency services.

On February 18th, 2020 there will be a County Board of Commissioners meeting at the government center. The defunding of the volunteer departments will be a topic of conversation. We plan on having representation from the Department there and welcome the community's support at this open forum.

On February 26th, 2020 the Administration from the Department will be meeting with the Director of LUESA and his staff to discuss the inaccurate information he provided the Board of County Commissioners.

On March 10th or 12th, 2020 there will be a town hall meeting at the Government Center to speak openly about the County's options. This time is TBD, and will be communicated as soon as we hear.

My ask for the community and those who have supported us throughout the years is to email every Commissioner stories, experiences, and thoughts about Director Gujjarlapudi's ill-advised and thoughtless recommendation.

I would also ask the community to email us stories, and experiences if you would like to. We will use these experiences to illustrate our commitment to the community to our Commissioner's, the media, and anyone that will listen.

Please, if you would like, respond to [email protected].

Lastly, I want to thank everyone for the support. We look forward to future continuing to service our community, provide outreach, and be there in your time of need.

Respectfully,

Tommy Towner
Chief

In an effort to save money, commissioners are considering options including the defunding of the fire department located in northeast Charlotte.

01/21/2020

Good Morning Everyone,

This post is being made to be completely transparent with everyone in the community; we feel you deserve that. As on 1/1/21, it has been recommended by the Director of LUESA that Cooks VFD be defunded which will close the doors for good. This is not a final decision, rather a recommendation meaning it still has to be voted on by the Board of County Commissioners. WE ARE NOT READY TO GO ANYWHERE! Cooks VFD has a long history here and we are not going down without a fight! From running calls down 485 to protecting you on the lake and everything between, THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY!! As a department, we are working hard with the Board of County Commissioners and doing everything within our powers to plead our case to help rectify this situation and remain funded which will keep us in business. We thank everyone for your continued support and ask that you continue to support us and let everyone know how much this department means to this community! If you have any questions please feel free to let me know! My email is [email protected]

'We can do this’: Paralyzed trooper, wife open up about life after serious crash

A wonderful family and a wonderful cause. We're thankful every day for Trooper Wooten and the courage he and his family have shown us.

For the first time, Wooten allowed a TV camera into his Atlanta hospital room, where he and his wife spoke to Channel 9’s Allison Latos about the crash that left him paralyzed, and his gratitude to be alive.

Please be vigilant of the area. Its unfortunate that those who serve are now those that are victimized.
