The Salvation Army Charlottesville, VA

The Salvation Army Charlottesville, VA The Salvation Army, an international movement and evangelical part of the universal Christian church.

About us:

The Charlottesville Corps of the Salvation Army is committed to “Doing the Most Good,” a daily mission to provide local, street-level solutions for the homeless and needy population in Charlottesville. The Charlottesville Corps engages in “boots-on-the-ground” actions to mentor and encourage new habits and better choices, enabling recipients to move out of the need for assistance. We ar

e the primary safety net for the greater Charlottesville area. We offer assistance and help find solutions for those in need but we have zero tolerance for begging and addictive behaviors. Developed and refined over 150 years in service to those less fortunate, our scope of services and approach to helping those in need is offered by no other organization, public or private, in our community. The Salvation Army provides services regardless of creed, race, gender or sexual orientation, and is consistently rated among the most efficient charities in America.

“Doing the Most Good” in Charlottesville is achieved through three core operations:

1) Emergency Intervention: Helping stabilize lives in crisis, the Corps provides food, housing and social service intervention for the needy through the Emergency Shelter Program, Emergency Social Services Program, and Emergency Disaster Unit.

2) Transitional Life and Health Services: As those in need transition to self-sufficiency families and individuals benefit from the Center of Hope Transitional Housing Program, the Medical Assistance Program (MAP), and the Homeless Intervention Program (HIP).

3) Initiative Support and Development: In addition to the generosity of local individual and corporate donors our local Corps relies on revenue-generating activities designed to underwrite the extensive ongoing services they provide in the Charlottesville area. The Salvation Army Family Store, Red Kettle Drive and Planned Giving programs are central to the ability of the Charlottesville Corps to serve the greater Charlottesville area. Located at 207 Ridge Street in Charlottesville, VA, the Charlottesville Corps of the Salvation Army provides services around the clock, every day of the year. To contact the Corps offices during normal business hours Monday through Friday, call 434-295-4058 or fax 434-295-6243. Find information about the Charlottesville Corps and donate online at:

School may pause for summer, but learning doesn’t have to. Summer doesn’t need to be a season where kids fall behind. ☀️📉

At The Salvation Army, we want summer to be a season where your children leap forward. And we are committed to this statement!

From Summer Sleepaway Camps for a week-long immersive experience that encourages independence and lasting memories, to youth programs and summer music conservatories, The Salvation Army gives children and teenagers a place to learn, play, explore, and stay rooted in community.

We help young minds stay bright.✨

There’s something admirable about the World Cup ⚽. How is it that one game has the power to bring thousands of people together, cheering with one voice? 📣 Giving creates the same sense of unity, as one act of kindness impacts an entire community and lifts up neighbors in need, regardless of their language or background. That’s something worth cheering! You can support the mission in our community and give in the way that feels right to you. This season, join the team that gives with joy and let your generosity turn it into something that brings real transformation in the lives of our neighbors. https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usa-southern-territory/potomac/

Summer heat doesn’t affect everyone the same way, and extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at risk.

A broken AC, a home without shade, a night without relief can turn a heatwave into a crisis.

That’s why this season matters, and The Salvation Army is stepping in to offer cool spaces, utility bill assistance and support for neighbors who need help staying safe this summer. ☀️

Reach out locally if you need assistance or if you can lend a hand. ✨

🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm donut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across our community find comfort, support, and hope through The Salvation Army.

🍩National Donut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do… together.

More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our food pantries 🍽️.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.

As we closed out Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month yesterday, The Salvation Army Potomac would like to take this moment to thank all of our AAPI neighbors and community members who dedicate their time to serving our mission.

This includes our staff, volunteers, donors, and church members across Potomac.

We are endlessly grateful for all of your meaningful service, and we can’t wait to see what we all do together in the year to come. ❤️

National research shows that summer camp strengthens confidence, independence, empathy, and meaningful friendships. Those outcomes matter for children. They also matter to families.

For working parents in Potomac, summer camp provides safe, structured care during long workdays. For children, it provides growth, connection, and leadership development.

Your support helps make both possible!

Summer Camps through the Salvation Army are offered free of charge so that financial barriers do not prevent access to opportunity or stability.

This American Camp Week, invest in the next generation and the families who are raising them at https://tinyurl.com/potomac-camp. ☀️♥️
