Earlier this year The VR Critic reviewed 'Collisions' (2016) calling it "early, innovative, and rule-breaking." Luke Buckmaster writes "For me, the most interesting part of 'Collisions' is how Wallworth welcomes us into a space—a space that’s not ours or hers. She treats and portrays her subject with great respect, carefully framing the narrative.”

Read the article here: https://www.thevrcritic.com/reviews/collisions/
and reserve your time slot to experience 'Collisions' tomorrow and Friday November 6 & 7 at the UVA Library's Scholar's Lab here: https://kluge-ruhe.org/events/vr-experience-collisions/

We have two VR headsets available- one via sign-up and one on a walk-in basis (10 am- 5 pm). The UVA Scholar's Lab is located in Shannon Library. Parking is available in the Central Grounds Garage at 400 Emmet Street South.

Exciting news for UVA Library and the Scholars' Lab!

We are delighted to announce that Leo S. Lo, an experienced library leader, expert in AI literacy, and champion of open education, will be the next University Librarian and Dean of Libraries at the University of Virginia, succeeding John M. Unsworth on Sept. 15.

Lo has spent the last 15 years in leadership roles in university libraries, including Old Dominion, Kansas State, and Penn State. He is currently dean of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences at the University of New Mexico, as well as the president of the Association of College & Research Libraries.

“Joining UVA as University librarian and dean of libraries is about embracing possibilities and honoring Thomas Jefferson’s vision of the library as the intellectual heart of the University,” Lo said. “It’s also about preserving history while actively engaging with new technologies. I’m eager to partner with UVA’s extraordinary students, faculty and staff to ensure the libraries continue to inspire, empower and connect our community through innovative and meaningful experiences.”

Around 2022, we started thinking about a "1919 project"--a faculty/student research project on English-language biographical collections of women. Now the Scholars' Lab
blog is sharing the series of short essays on what we found about race, nationhood, and Collective Biographies of Women's evidence about changing representation. The introductory post last week: https://scholarslab.lib.virginia.edu/blog/cbw-about1919-alison/

and Lloyd Sy's magnificent essay this week. https://scholarslab.lib.virginia.edu/blog/cbw-about1919-2-lloyd/

I'm sure you like thinking about early optimism about democracy and women's rights. Also, about network analysis. Watch these pages for a fascinating comparison of Louisa May Alcott and Harriet Tubman; for a short study of the psychographer Gamaliel Bradford; for further explorations by BA, MA, PhD students.

A Co-authored Series of Posts ‘About 1919,’ that is, about English-language books published from 1914 to 1921, according to the online bibliography and database, Collective Biographies of Women.
