Thomas Jefferson EMS Council

Thomas Jefferson EMS Council Regional EMS Council serving Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, Madison and the City of Charlottesville

The Thomas Jefferson Council is an integral part of the EMS system whose function is to assess, identify, coordinate, plan and implement an efficient and effective regional EMS delivery system in partnership with the Virginia Office of EMS and the Virginia EMS Advisory Board. TJEMS covers the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, the City of Charlottesville (Planning District 10

) and Madison County (Planning District 9) in Central Virginia. We also work closely with the EMS agencies in Orange and Buckingham counties. With over thirty five EMS agencies, the Council enjoys an excellent working relationship with it's two hospitals, the University of Virginia Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma Center) and Martha Jefferson Hospital. The UVA Pre-hospital Program provides for initial ALS certification programs, ALS continuing education, and constant "run review" for all agencies within the region. Council funding is largely based upon the services offered by the TJEMS council and is received from the local governments, the Commonwealth and the EMS agencies comprising the council.
