Yes, that’s right, and it's alarming! Kids who drop out of school struggle to succeed in life without a proper education. We want to stop this statistic by empowering African American Teachers and by setting a good example for our local youth.

AATF doesn't just cut a check; we build a community.

We understand that staying in the teaching profession requires support in various areas. That’s why we assist our Fellows in three main ways:

💰 Financial Support: Up to $6,000 per year for full-time students to cover tuition and licensure fees.

💼 Professional Support: Helping navigate the job market and creating strong partnerships with local schools.

🌱Social Support: Providing a built-in mentoring program and a strong, life-long network of peer educators.

If you know any inspiring teachers? Contact us today, and they might be our next Fellow. 🔗www.aatf.org/give

African American Teaching Fellows is excited to invite you to attend our 2026 Community Breakfast on 🗓 Thursday, June 18th, from ⌚️ 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 📍The Jefferson African American Heritage Center.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of our grassroots nonprofit and strengthen connections between our fellows and the broader community. It will also provide an opportunity for fellows and community members to engage with local organizations and learn about the resources and support available to them as community members.

At this community breakfast, you can look forward to a great meal, meaningful connections, and plenty of laughter as comedian Leslie Rob takes the stage.

Let’s consider the reality in our classrooms. In our region, almost 30% of school-age children are African American, but fewer than 10% of their teachers are!

At AATF, we are changing this story by recruiting, developing, and keeping talented Black educators in our local public schools. We understand that when we teach, we reach. 🌍

Even though our Fellows start off as educators in the school system, they don’t always stay in the local school system, but that doesn’t mean they aren't teaching and mentoring the youth of our world. We have Fellows working throughout Virginia and beyond.
