Charlottesville Sister Cities Commission The CSCC promotes understanding and fosters relationships between all our cities and citizens. and international communities.

Appointed by Council, the Charlottesville Sister City Commission is an organizing body devoted to assisting the individual Sister City relationships with community activities and promotion. The City of Charlottesville is an active member of Sister Cities International, a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between U.S. This network strives to build global

cooperation at the municipal level, promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.

Cher Stewart represented the Charlottesville Sister-Cities at the 70th Anniversary Celebration of Sister Cities International in Washington DC July 22-25th. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet board members from all over the country, see what kind of exciting projects they are doing and to meet some special guests including the Vice President of Ghana, ambassadors from Panama and Japan, embassy representatives from Poland and Nigeria and representatives from the U.S. State Department.
The Charlottesville Sister-Cities commission has sister cities in Besançon, France, Poggio, Italy, Winneba, Ghana and Huehuetenango, Guetamala. We are currently seeking community volunteers for each sister city that we have.
Please email [email protected] with your contact information, which country you would like to volunteer with and any expertise that you can share with us. Volunteering can be a few times a year or more, depending on your interest and availability.

🇬🇹✈️ HUEHUETENANGO PARTICIPARÁ EN LA CONMEMORACIÓN DEL 250 ANIVERSARIO DE LA INDEPENDENCIA DE ESTADOS UNIDOS 🇺🇸🤝

La Municipalidad de Huehuetenango informó que una comitiva oficial viajará a la ciudad de Charlottesville, tras recibir una invitación para participar en la conmemoración del 250 aniversario de la Independencia de los Estados Unidos.

Durante la visita también está prevista la firma del acuerdo definitivo de hermanamiento entre Huehuetenango y Charlottesville, con el objetivo de fortalecer los lazos de cooperación entre ambas ciudades. 🤝

La delegación fue designada por el Honorable Concejo Municipal y estará integrada por el alcalde municipal, así como por los concejales Alida Vázquez y Hugo Hernández. La comuna indicó que los gastos de participación serán cubiertos por los propios integrantes de la comitiva.

The Charlottesville Sister Cities Commission invites the community to a special Signing Ceremony and Cultural Celebration next Thursday, July 2 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at McGuffey Art Center, Studio 11 (201 Second Street NW).

This special event will commemorate the recent Sister Cities partnership between the City of Charlottesville and Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The two communities initially became Friendship Cities in 2021.

Attendees can expect African dance, Andean music, storytelling, and more. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

We hope you'll join us in celebrating connection and the sharing of cultures!
