Charlottesville City Council will interview three candidates for the City's next City Manager on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center. Our children serve as the building blocks of our community and the childhood experience is crucially important in shaping the health of our society. The pinwheel serves as the symbol for child abuse prevention and is a reflection of hope, health, and safety. Thank you ReadyKids for inviting us to participate in this morning's Pinwheel Garden event and to all of the tremendous resources who are committed to the future of our community by ensuring the healthy development of all of our children.

Thanks to all who came out yesterday to share this moment with us and to those who were there in spirit. I am excited about our potential as both a council and a community to embrace our differences, forge new relationships, and leverage our collective resources as we write the next chapter for our city. The support from near and far has and will continue to be instrumental. Thank you again. (click below for more photos courtesy of the Daily Progress)

Tomorrow this chapter will come to an end and, win or lose, a new one will begin. This journey has stretched me in ways I didn't even know possible and, because of that, it has also stretched my family. These pictures provide some perspective - my 7 year old daughter continues to be my biggest cheerleader and my 5 year old son just wants to see and be with me. (My two year old hasn’t lived long enough to know any different!). There are no words to express how grateful I am for their unconditional love and support – I would not have gotten to this point without it.

At a time when we all must be focused on healing and coming together as a community, I am distressed at the timing and tone of the weekend’s headlines. I have remained focused on running a positive campaign centered around issues and community. In the very limited time that remains before this election, this is where we all must continue to focus. Racism and sexism have no place in our political discourse.

As the song goes..."I get by with a little help from my friends." Thanks to all who came out to make this happen. And thank you to all who have supported me in this campaign in so many ways - from close friends to those I have met along the way. It has picked me up when I needed it and kept me moving forward with a positive attitude every day.
