The Presidential Precinct engages and inspires emerging leaders to address the most pressing challenges in their countries. We seek to draw out the best from these leaders through professional fellowships, leadership exchanges, global forums, and virtual resources with six primary areas of focus: women’s empowerment, economic opportunity, good governance, human rights and justice, cultural heritage, and civic engagement. Over 1,400 leaders from more than 170 countries have joined the Presidential Precinct’s programs and returned home to invest their knowledge, expertise, and networks to transform the lives of millions worldwide. The Precinct sits at the center of a five-member consortium, consisting of two premier universities – the University of Virginia and William & Mary – and three internationally renowned historic sites – James Madison’s Montpelier, James Monroe’s Highland, and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

The rule of law is under growing pressure worldwide. 🌍⚖️

According to the newly released 2026 World Justice Project Rule of Law Index, the rule of law declined in 62% of countries surveyed, with criminal justice systems weakening in 58%.

During our 2026 Judicial Fellowship Program, 25 senior judges from 21 countries came together to discuss the challenges facing their judiciaries and explore ways to strengthen the rule of law.

Two weeks. 25 judicial leaders. 21 countries. One shared commitment to the rule of law. 🌍⚖️

We're looking back on the 2026 Judicial Fellowship Program, which brought together senior judges from around the world for two weeks of learning, dialogue, and meaningful exchange in Washington, D.C., and Charlottesville, Virginia.

Convened with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, this Fellowship is about more than two weeks of programming. It's about building lasting relationships and a global community of judicial leaders committed to strengthening the rule of law.

We're grateful to our Fellows, partners, and speakers who made this year's program so memorable!

A shared commitment to justice and the rule of law. ⚖️ 🌎

Last Thursday, we brought our 2026 Judicial Fellows together with Charlottesville’s legal community and local supporters for our Rule of Law event, featuring keynote remarks from U.S. District Judge Jasmine H. Yoon.

The evening connected global judicial perspectives with our local community, strengthening the relationships at the heart of the Judicial Fellowship Program.

Congratulations to the 2026 Judicial Fellows! 🎉 🌎

Our final day of the 2026 Judicial Fellowship Program included a visit to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, a send-off luncheon and certificate ceremony, reflections from our Fellows, and a UVA basketball game!

Over two weeks in Washington, D.C., and Charlottesville, Fellows exchanged perspectives, explored shared challenges, and built connections that will continue well beyond the program.

A day of constitutional questions and community connections. ⚖️ 🤝

Yesterday, our Fellows explored constitution making and constitutional change with Mila Versteeg, then examined the relationship between international human rights law and domestic legal systems with Camilo Sánchez. The evening brought them together with Charlottesville’s legal community and our local supporters, with keynote remarks on justice and the rule of law from U.S. District Judge Jasmine Yoon.

⚖️ Yesterday's conversations brought our Judicial Fellows to the intersection of constitutional law, executive power, and emerging technology.

🌍 At the University of Virginia School of Law, Fellows examined the role of the President under the U.S. Constitution, the legal challenges presented by AI, and how courts around the world respond to contested presidential elections—exploring the role of judicial institutions in shaping democratic governance.

This past week, our Judicial Fellows explored some of the most pressing challenges facing courts and legal institutions around the world, from institutional resilience and public trust to transparency, accountability, and economic opportunity. 🌍

Through panels and roundtable discussions with judges, lawyers, journalists, business leaders, and other experts, Fellows exchanged perspectives on strengthening the rule of law and building more trusted, resilient legal institutions.

As our 2026 Judicial Fellows gather in Washington, D.C. for two weeks of dialogue, exchange, and connection, we’re hearing from those who have experienced the Fellowship before them.
