The Presidential Precinct engages and inspires emerging leaders to address the most pressing challenges in their countries. We seek to draw out the best from these leaders through professional fellowships, leadership exchanges, global forums, and virtual resources with six primary areas of focus: women’s empowerment, economic opportunity, good governance, human rights and justice, cultural heritag

e, and civic engagement. Over 1,400 leaders from more than 170 countries have joined the Presidential Precinct’s programs and returned home to invest their knowledge, expertise, and networks to transform the lives of millions worldwide. The Precinct sits at the center of a five-member consortium, consisting of two premier universities – the University of Virginia and William & Mary – and three internationally renowned historic sites – James Madison’s Montpelier, James Monroe’s Highland, and Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

⚖️ The International Judicial Exchange is officially underway!

Together with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and the National Center for State Courts, we’re connecting Judicial Fellowship Program alumni with U.S. federal and state judges for six months of peer-to-peer exchange.

Strong, independent courts help create communities where people can expect fairness, businesses can invest with confidence, and democracy can thrive. Investing in judicial leaders is an investment in stability.

Looking back on 🌍

What made this year's Global Democracy Fellowship so memorable wasn't just the places we visited or the sessions we attended—it was the people.

For six weeks, Fellows from 20 countries shared ideas, challenged assumptions, and built friendships that crossed borders and cultures.

Those conversations may have ended, but the relationships they created are just getting started!

Six weeks. Countless conversations. One global network of leaders. 🌍

Yesterday, we celebrated the close of the 2026 Global Democracy Fellowship in the historic Wren Chapel at William & Mary.

A heartfelt thank you to Guyana's Ambassador to the United States, Samuel Hinds, for his inspiring keynote, and to Justice John Charles Thomas for a moving poetic sendoff as our Fellows returned home to 20 countries.

We're deeply grateful to Colonial Williamsburg for making this Fellowship possible and to all of our partners for this incredible season of learning and connection.

Congratulations to the 2026 Global Democracy Fellows—we can't wait to see what comes next!

How do you write a constitution? 📜

Our Global Democracy Fellows explored that question at James Madison's Montpelier through an immersive constitutionalism workshop and constitution-making simulation.

Over several days, Fellows wrestled with difficult questions, debated ideas, found common ground, and experienced just how complex—and important—the work of building democratic institutions can be.

A memorable few days filled with thoughtful conversations, new perspectives, and plenty of collaboration.

The Fellowship may end, but the collaboration continues!

Congratulations to Judicial Fellowship Program alumni Carla ('24), Soledad ('25), Engert ('25), and Carlos ('25), who recently reunited in Neuquén, Argentina, to organize and lead an international conference on organized crime.

Seeing our alumni convene experts from around the world to tackle complex challenges is exactly why we invest in building a global community of leaders.
