Today, Officer Fortier had the honor of leading the Charlton Little League Parade aboard one of our department’s newly acquired motorcycles, “MC-2”! It was a great day celebrating our community and supporting our young athletes.

The goal of our motorcycle unit is to enhance traffic enforcement, maintain a visible presence throughout town, and continue building positive connections with our residents.

We’d like to introduce the officers who have previous training and experience in this role and are assigned to this new unit: Officer Sherbourne and Officer Fortier. A special congratulations goes out to Officer Fournier for successfully completing the 80-hour motor officer course—an extremely rigorous and demanding program. Well done!

You can swing by and meet Officer Fournier and see MC-1 at the Touch a Truck event at Charlton Middle School Today from 9Am-1PM.

As warmer weather approaches, we remind everyone to take that extra second to look out for all motorcycles on the road. And if you see our officers out on patrol, don’t hesitate to give them a wave!
Stay safe, Charlton! 🇺🇸

CPR saves lives…being in the right place at the right time.

Sergeant Brian Cardrant of the Charlton Police Department, while participating in the Tough Ruck today, witnessed a participant experience a medical emergency. Without hesitation, Sergeant Cardrant relied on his training to initiate life-saving measures, along with other bystanders, including performing CPR, until members of the Lexington Fire Department arrived on scene. They then continued advanced life-saving care, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The patient was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Charlton Police Officers are trained yearly in the administration of CPR and the use of the Automatic External Defibrulator in treating individuals experiencing cardiac emergencies.

The American Heart Association reports that the initiation of Immediate CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival from cardiac arrest, with survival rates rising to approximately 20-30% when administered by trained individuals.

At last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Ava Pederson was officially appointed as a full-time dispatcher for the Town of Charlton. Congratulations, Ava!

We would like to thank the Selectboard, Finance Committee, and the voters of Charlton for approving and funding this eighth full-time dispatcher position. With this role now filled, our Communications Center will have two dispatchers on duty for all scheduled shifts, except for two overnight shifts each week when one dispatcher will be assigned. This addition also strengthens our ability to maintain coverage when dispatchers are on leave or time off.
This is a significant milestone that has been in the works for quite some time. In 2025, the Charlton Communications Center handled over 5,000 emergency 911 calls and more than 33,000 calls for service, supporting police, fire, EMS, animal control, and other town departments.

We are proud to continue improving our service to the community and are excited to have Ava join our team. Welcome aboard!

This National Telecommunications Week, we pause to recognize the voices behind the scenes—the calm in the chaos, the steady presence in moments of uncertainty, and the true first first responders: our dispatchers.

Each year, our communications center answers more than 4,000 emergency 911 calls and logs over 30,000 calls for service. Behind every number is a story—someone in need, a moment that matters, a life that may depend on the person on the other end of the line.

Our dispatchers are the first point of contact in an emergency. Before sirens are heard or lights are seen, they are there—listening, guiding, reassuring, and coordinating critical response. They carry the weight of urgency with professionalism and compassion, often without ever meeting the people they help.

Their dedication to this town runs deep. They serve not just as operators, but as lifelines—committed to the safety, well-being, and resilience of our community every single day.

To our communications team: thank you for your unwavering service, your strength under pressure, and your steadfast commitment to those who call for help. You are the unseen heroes who make a visible difference.
