It has been a very difficult rehab season when my husband had a very serious and life changing, medical emergency and subsequent surgery. The wildlife babies were arriving in full force and I suddenly had to make the heartbreaking decision to stop additional admissions. I was able to provide care and rehab for a dozen raccoons this spring and they have been my comfort throughout his healing. I have taken very few photos but these are a few of my babies.

The first of two raccoon babies came in last weekend. One had an injury across his neck. It was cleaned and it is now healing well. Babies were approximately two wks old. It looks like their eyes should be opening in a few days. Please give raccoon moms time to relocate their babies if they are discovered in barns, outbuildings, etc. The babies are expensive to care for and are labor intensive over several months. There are a very limited number of raccoon rehabbers. Please try to keep babies with their moms for their best survival chances.

Here is a very short video of Erik and her first egg. You can hear her giving a warning call to try to protect her egg.

Our very beautiful and special twenty three year old red tailed hawk, Erik, has laid not one, but two eggs over the last few days. Erik had been misidentified as a male fledgling, but to our great surprise laid an egg a few years ago! She guards her eggs and tries to incubate them, but eventually they end up breaking. As an education ambassador, she met thousands of school children and adults over her years as a program bird. The story of her amazing recovery, after being shot as a fledgling, taught so many people about love and respect for our precious wildlife and nature! Enjoy!

Jack Hughes wearing the red, white, and blue is a reminder of what pride, sacrifice, and passion for this country look like at the highest level. Every shift, every battle along the boards, and every moment after the final horn reflects a love for something bigger than the individual.

This is the result of hard work meeting opportunity, where talent is matched by gratitude for the chance to represent the United States on the world stage. Moments like this capture why international competition matters and why the flag still means something to millions of Americans.

Victory wrapped in stars and stripes never gets old. This is American grit, American heart, and American excellence on full display.
