Elijah Smith, Mahi Chanpura, Madalyn Hilligoss and Maryam Hafiz from GHS have been selected to serve as members of the Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council for the 2026-27 school year!

Throughout the year, SAC members will meet virtually with ISBE staff and stakeholders to provide student perspective and contribute to the development of education policy.

SAC members will also participate in activities such as the Student Summit and present their research project to the Board of Education in spring of 2027.

GMS students have designed boats made out of cardboard to participate in the Special Olympics Illinois Cardboard Boat Regatta this Sunday at 1 PM at Sheedy Shores.

Contestants will compete for a variety of awards including "best design", "fastest boat" and "fastest sinker".

As the new school year is now underway, we encourage families to take a few minutes to review the Meal Benefits application on Skyward.

Completing the application is beneficial not only for your household, but also for our schools and Food Service program. Eligible families may qualify for free or reduced-price meals, helping make sure students have access to nutritious meals during the school day. This information can also support the resources and programs available to our schools and students throughout the year.

Even if you are unsure whether your family qualifies, we encourage you to complete the application. The process is quick, confidential, and completed through Skyward following these directions: https://shorturl.at/a09uv

Here are the basic benefits of households applying and potentially being approved:

-Households can apply at any time during the year. Change in income/loss of employment. Change in household size, addition of new household members.

-Households will limit or potentially eliminate the possibility of accruing food service debt.

-The application process is confidential.

-Households approved provides more state and federal funding for the food service program which helps lower overall operational costs.

-Percentage of free and reduced students can potentially benefit the entire district through grants or other programs based on free and reduced percentages.

-The food service program is self-supported and relies on income from household meal participation, and state or federal funding specific to food service programs.

GHS football kicks off the season at 7 tonight with a home game against Normal West.
