The Town of Hurt is one of five locations selected to receive funding through an award from the Economic Development Association.

WASHINGTON –Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced $28.5 million in Disaster Supplemental funding awards to five states, which were impacted by storms and natural disasters in 2023 and 2024.

The Pittsylvania County Dept of Public Work started a hydrant maintenance program this week. Work began in the Highway 58 West area and will progress throughout other areas of the County’s systems.

Contract crews will be out flushing and painting hydrants over the next several weeks. Hydrant flushing can stir up naturally occurring iron and mineral sediment in water mains, causing temporary brown or rusty-looking tap water.
The discoloration is aesthetic, it poses no health hazard.

Clear your pipes by running a large cold-water tap, like a bathtub or utility sink in the lowest level of your home until clear.
