Entry-Level Union Position – IBEW Local 51

The Village of Chatham is seeking a motivated individual to join our Electric Department as an Electric Department Locator. This entry-level, union position performs a variety of labor duties necessary to assist journey-level workers and others in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of the Village's electrical distribution system and related equipment.

Primary Responsibilities

· Perform utility locating services for the Village's electrical distribution system.

· Mark underground electrical facilities in accordance with JULIE locate requests.

· Support daily operations of the electric distribution system.

· Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles related to utility locating and electrical maintenance.

· Maintain accurate records of locate requests and completed work.

· Follow all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Valid Illinois driver's license required. (CDL class A preferred)

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

· Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

· Strong work ethic and willingness to learn Chatham's electrical system to become proficient at locating underground utilities.

· Previous locating experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

Nominations are being accepted for the naming of Volunteer Drive

Recognizing the extreme value that volunteers and their efforts contribute to the quality of life in the village, the Village of Chatham is currently accepting nominations for the annual honorary naming of Volunteer Drive; the road that winds through Community Park.

Beginning in 2017, the Village has honored residents who have been leaders and volunteers in the local community by designating this street with their name. The previous recipients of this honor, are members of this year’s selection committee: Rollo Saucier (2017), Jane Hay (2018) and Diane Vanderkooy (2019). (2020) Honored the exceptional commitment made by the entire Village as everybody navigated the uncertainty of the pandemic. The road was named for Les Morgan (2021) and Tracy Formea (2022). In (2023) John and Maggie Moore were honored, followed by Graham McCoy in (2024) and In (2025) Tom Franke was selected.
It is anticipated that this year’s individual recipient will be named in July of 2026.

Village President, Dave Kimsey notes, “The benefit that our volunteers bring to the Village of Chatham can never be understated. From contributions of knowledge and expertise on village boards and planning commissions, to time and labor to improving our parks and beautifying our village, to organizing and facilitating youth sports and group opportunities, all the way through the compassion in helping feed those in need and providing ancillary support services to families and our institutions, our volunteers form the bedrock of our community and are a critical component to the quality of life in our village.”

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work extensively with citizens and utility customers
• Record and process work orders accurately

Village of Chatham – Junk Day Drop Off

The Village of Chatham will hold its annual Junk Day Drop Off on May 16, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Residents may place acceptable items in the dumpsters located at Chatham Community Park.

Accepted Items:
Household junk and miscellaneous debris
Furniture and bulky items

Items Not Accepted:
Hazardous Waste: Chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, solvents, radioactive materials, and asbestos.
Liquids: Paint (wet), oils (motor, hydraulic), antifreeze, and fuel.
Electronics & Appliances: TVs, computers, monitors, microwaves, and refrigerators (appliances with Freon).
Automotive & Tires: Tires, car batteries, and car parts.
Flammable/Explosive Materials: Propane tanks, aerosol cans, and hot ashes.
Medical Waste: Needles, syringes, and sharps.
Other: Animals/carcasses, railroad ties, and sometimes concrete/dirt, depending on container size.

Dates set for Residential Yard Waste Collection
This document outlines the steps for residential yard waste collection in the Village of Chatham, Illinois. Here is a breakdown of the key points:

• Our Contractor Will Do Two trips this Spring: The contractor will make two separate collection trips through the village starting the week of April 6, 2026, and again the week of May 4, 2026.
Contractor Responsibilities:

• Unlimited number of containers: Residents can place out any number of containers.
• Acceptable containers:

MISO’s request for customers to voluntarily conserve energy has ended. We thank you and appreciate your efforts to reduce energy usage and help ensure electric grid stability. MISO has indicated they are still in a warning status. Please stay prepared in case of another energy conservation request in the coming days. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide you information if the need arises.

The regional electric grid operator has called on area customers, including those served by the Village of Chatham, to reduce electric usage. Please do your part by taking the following conservation measures:

• For electric-heated buildings, decrease heat setting by two degrees or more.
• Reduce “ghost” electric use by unplugging items not in use (e.g. coffee makers, appliances, and chargers).
• Use minimal lighting.
• Avoid using major appliances.
