‼️Incident Update‼️

At 11:16AM CFD was alerted for a serious vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and a dump truck. First arriving units found a semi completely blocking the roadway on fire and a Vdot buffer truck overturned on the southbound side of HWY 29. Both drivers were out of the vehicles. CFD units extinguished the fire and began containing the fuel spill from the semi. 1 pt. was airlifted due to injuries, but is expected to survive. The second pt. was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated. Thank you to those who assisted with the incident. All motorists are reminded to slow down and move over if you encounter cautionary or emergency lights during your commute.

‼️TRAFFIC ALERT‼️

St.21 units are currently operating on a serious vehicle accident on US HWY 29 just before the 57 exit. All southbound traffic is currently being directed through the Town of Chatham until further notice! This will be an extended incident please make arrangements for your commute. No additional information will be provided at this time.

‼️Working Incident‼️ - Update

All units have cleared and returned to service. Units operated for roughly 5hrs controlling this incident.

St.21 along with additional mutual aid departments are currently on the scene of a working fire in the first due. Multiple tankers are utilizing a hydrant at the intersection of Hurt St. and My Twinn Ln. Units will be operating for an extended period of time.

This will be the 4th call of the day for CFD and the second working fire this week.

‼️Working Fires‼️
Just after 9 PM, St.21 was alerted to a vehicle fire in the first due, Command 21 arrived to find a pickup truck fully involved off the side of the road. E-212 w/3 arrived and began fire suppression quickly extinguishing the fire. While picking up, St.21 along with mutual aid was alerted for a working structure fire in the first due area as well. The engine company swiftly cleared from the vehicle fire to take the run. E-212 went on scene with a large barn fully involved with multiple exposures. Attack lines were quickly stretched to begin extinguishment. Units operated on scene for 3 hours before clearing with no injuries on either fire. CFD responded with the command unit, brush truck, tanker, and 2 engine companies. Thank you to our mutual aid agencies for the assistance.

As of Friday, April 24, 2026, the National Weather Service has declared Pittsylvania County to be under "severe drought" conditions. The County is expected to see below normal precipitation for the foreseeable future. Accordingly, Christopher Key, Pittsylvania County Director of Public Safety, has imposed a ban on open burning on the entire County effective 12 Noon today until further notice. With temperatures climbing this week, please take extra precautions to keep your family — and your pets — safe during extreme heat.

🔥 HOME SAFETY TIPS:
• Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
• Never overload fans or air conditioners with extension cords.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone without reliable cooling.
• Keep grills away from homes, decks, and dry grass.
• Make sure smoke alarms are working properly.

🐾 PET SAFETY TIPS:
• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle — even for a few minutes.
• Ensure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade outdoors.
• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening to avoid hot pavement.
• Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: excessive panting, weakness, vomiting, or collapse.

If you see signs of heat-related illness in a person or pet, seek help immediately.
