Congratulations to Captain Jason Castoe and Firefighter Jeremy Baird for completion of the Structural Collapse Technician Course held at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center this past week. The course teaches the correct procedures for assessing and stabilizing buildings that have sustained structural damage such as during a tornado or earthquake. The Chatsworth Fire Department now has four members that are trained to the technician level in Structural Collapse. Captain Joey Torres and Firefighter Josh Stafford have also completed this rigorous training. We are very proud of these men for their work in being prepared to serve the citizens of Chatsworth and the surrounding communities during any type of disaster.

Testing of the storm warning system today went well and the system is now up and running. There were some questions raised today about some indoor locations where the sirens may not be easily heard. We want to remind everyone that this is not intended to be your only source of early warning. The sirens are there as a supplement to other systems such as a weather radio. The primary function of these sirens are to provide warning to those who are outdoors, away from other warning sources. Severe weather can occur very rapidly and large crowds at outdoor events are at high risk. The fact that the sirens are audible indoors throughout most of our town is an added advantage and something that was considered when selecting the locations for the sirens. Thank you to everyone for your patience during the tests today and please be safe.

Testing of the Tornado Warning Sirens installed by the City of Chatsworth will take place this Thursday, March 20th. between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. If Thursday's weather is inclement we will postpone testing until Friday March 21st. during the same hours. There will be several short activations during this time to make sure that all of the sirens work properly. Please pass this information along to others who live or work in the City of Chatsworth.
