Effective today, I have declared a local state of emergency and issued a burn ban for Murray County due to the extremely dry conditions we’re continuing to face.

Right now, it doesn’t take much for a small fire to turn into something dangerous. This decision wasn’t made lightly, but it’s necessary to protect lives, property, and our emergency responders.

This ban applies to all outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county until further notice.

I know burning is a common practice for many, but I’m asking everyone to do their part and take this seriously. One careless moment in conditions like these can have lasting consequences.

The burn ban will remain in place until we receive significant rainfall and conditions improve enough to safely lift it.

We’ll continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you updated. In the meantime, thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep Murray County safe.
