Murray County Schools Announces “Back to Basics” Heating Initiative

In a bold move toward “self-reliance and resilience,” Murray County Schools has announced a new district-wide initiative to install wood-burning stoves in every classroom ahead of next winter.

Superintendent officials say the plan will ensure students no longer miss school due to cold weather while also “bringing a little pioneer spirit back to public education.”

Under the program, each classroom will be equipped with:
• One cast-iron wood stove
• A rotating student “Fire Marshal of the Week”
• Axe training and safety

But the initiative doesn’t stop at heating.

**NEW CURRICULUM ALERT**
Students will now participate in **hands-on wood-chopping lessons** during PE class. District leaders say the activity provides an excellent opportunity for:
• Upper-body strength
• Cardio
• Learning the value of hard work
• Burning off energy before standardized testing

“This is real-world learning,” officials said. “Math students will calculate how many logs it takes to heat a classroom. Science students will study combustion. History students will just nod knowingly.”

District leaders are calling the initiative “innovative, budget-friendly, and extremely rustic.”

More details will be shared once the school board figures out where to store 14,000 axes.

The newly completed Dennis Mill Road bridge reopened Thursday after nine months of construction. Now that the new bridge is officially open, the City is accepting applications for an Official Bridge Troll.

Duties include:
• Guarding the bridge
• Judging traffic decisions silently
• Collecting tolls in gold coins, magic rocks and tacos from Los Amigos
• Scaring small children

Qualifications:
• Short, odd-looking with body odor
• Wears trousers
• Will absolutely tell people they suck at driving

Position is unpaid but includes lifetime slaw dogs from Big V and an appalling pension plan.

To apply:
Comment “I could do that job,” complain about the bridge unprompted, or simply already be doing it. We don't really care.

Seems we have exhausted all of our road salt supply. In the interest of keeping our roads safe for future weather events, we'll be utilizing our supply of saltine crackers this next go 'round. If you have any boxes of old or expired saltines you'd like to get rid of, please reach out as we're willing to pay .02 on the dollar for them. Thanks.
