We’ve had the honor of welcoming Joel Sartore to Camp Wildernest Wildlife Center, where he has photographed some of the wildlife that has come through our doors. 📸🐦❤️

Joel’s dedication to documenting the incredible diversity of animals around the world is truly inspiring. Through his photography, he brings attention to species both big and small and reminds us why every life is worth protecting.

We are so grateful that some of our very own intakes have had the opportunity to be photographed as part of his amazing work. Congratulations, Joel, on 18,000 portraits and 20 years of the Photo Ark! What an incredible accomplishment! 🌎📸🐾

Joel Sartore photographs like he's running out of time.

The man behind National Geographic Photo Ark, an extraordinary collection of 18,000 animal portraits and counting, is 20 years into a project that stretches beyond the horizon. Four years ago, when CNN last interviewed Sartore, he'd produced 13,000 portraits. Since then he's added another 5,000. The 64-year-old is speeding up.

🐦 Keep an eye on your backyard birds!

Trichomoniasis can spread quickly at feeders and birdbaths, especially among House Finches. Watch for the symptoms shown in our graphic, and if you spot a sick bird, remove your feeders and birdbaths immediately.

A little prevention can go a long way toward keeping our backyard birds healthy! ❤️

🐦💚 The fledgling finches would like to say… THANK YOU, Food City!

Just look at these little ones enjoying their fresh produce! 😋🥬🍎

We are so thankful for the generous produce donations we receive from Hwy 58 Food City. These donations help stretch our funds while giving the wildlife in our care a wonderful variety of fresh, healthy foods.

And judging by the video… we think the finches give today’s menu two tiny wings up! 😂🐦🐦

Thank you, Hwy 58 Food City, for helping us keep all these little bellies full! Your generosity truly makes a difference for the animals in our care. ❤️

🧼🐦 Before the fall crowd arrives... give the bird buffet a good scrub!

Fall migration means more birds moving through, more birds gathering together and more opportunities for germs to spread anywhere birds congregate.

So late summer is a GREAT time for a feeder-station reset.

✨ Dump old or wet food
✨ Give feeders a thorough cleaning
✨ Scrub and refill bird baths regularly
✨ Clean up accumulated seed and hulls underneath feeders
✨ Refill with fresh, high-quality food

All birds deserve a clean place to grab a bite and a drink. 💛 If your feeder has reached the “I don't think any amount of scrubbing is saving this thing” stage... well, we know a place you can get a new one. 😉
