The National Weather Service in Morristown, TN reporting HOT AND HUMID conditions through Saturday. A few strong to severe storms Friday and Saturday.

Heat Advisory in effect for most areas through Friday 8 PM EDT. We will see temperatures in the upper 90s, with heat indices in the low 100s for the next several days.

Isolated storms are possible Friday afternoon and evening. There is a low chance a storm becomes strong to severe, mainly across northeast TN and southwest VA.

Scattered storms are expected Saturday afternoon & evening. The chance for a few strong to severe storms looks to be slightly more favorable during this time.

Hamilton County, TN---- Early this morning, an elderly man was awoken by the activation of his smoke detector and found his home full of smoke. He called 911 and a family member to alert a fire in his home. Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 7600 block of Harper Road (Hixson area). The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was the first unit on the scene and found the elderly male sitting on the front porch. The deputy immediately moved the elderly man away from the home.

Shortly after, Dallas Bay VFD arrived on the scene reporting smoke coming out of the front door. The firefighters quickly established water supply, entered the residence and found heavy smoke coming from the stove in the kitchen. Once extinguished, firefighters removed the appliance and searched for any fire extension in the walls and attic area.

No injuries were reported by Dallas Bay fire officials. Chief Markus Fritts, Dallas Bay VFD, reported smoke detectors do SAVE LIVES! It is so important to have ACTIVE smoke detectors throughout your home! Damages were minor. The cause of the fire will be investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department was requested as a Mutual Aid response to stand by at Dallas Bay VFD station in the event of future emergency calls in their district.

** ROAD CLOSURE **

The Hamilton County Highway Department will close Roberts Mill Road on Monday, August 31st, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This closure is necessary to perform scheduled maintenance on the road and ditch lines. Motorists should plan to use W Road or Signal Mountain Boulevard/Taft Highway to access or leave Signal Mountain during this time

** ROAD CLOSURE **

Hamilton County Highway Department reporting Sue Drive will be closed from August 26th through September 9th, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.
This temporary closure on Sue Drive, between Green Shanty Road and Palomino Drive, is necessary to allow WWTA's contractors to complete repairs to the sewer lines in the area. (Green Shanty will remain open)

Residents will continue to have access to and from their homes throughout the project.
All other motorists are asked to avoid the area and allow additional travel time by using the posted detour route. Please refer to the attached map for detour information.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these important infrastructure repairs are completed.

** BE WEATHER AWARE **

The National Weather Service in Morristown, TN reporting the potential of SEVERE WEATHER for Hamilton County, TN:

One last very hot afternoon today for much of the Tennessee Valley with heat indices soaring above 100 degrees. A cold front arrival later today, may bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the region during the afternoon and evening hours. Damaging winds are the primary threat, along with isolated flash flooding.

Bottom Line Up Front:

Heat Index values above 100 for much of the Valley with portions of the Central Valley and Southeast Tennessee seeing values reach or exceed 105 degrees.

Strong to severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon into the evening hours. Damaging winds and isolated flash flooding are the main threats. A spin-up tornado, as well as small hail, cannot totally be ruled out.

What Has Changed:

Minor adjustments to the Severe Weather Outlook from the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).

Confidence:

High confidence in very hot temperatures and heat index values.

Low to Medium confidence on thunderstorm development/severity (dry air above surface may impact how today evolves)

Medium to High confidence on thunderstorm timing and potential impacts this afternoon and evening

** BE WEATHER AWARE THIS WEEK! **

Another sizzling hot week for Hamilton County, TN and it's only going to get worse this weekend!

If possible, please limit your time outside! Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures can cause illness, as excessive heat can increase the body’s core temperature and lead to serious health risks.

To stay safe and reduce the risk of heat-related illness:

* Stay inside air-conditioned buildings as much as possible.

* Drink more water than usual, and don’t wait until you’re thirsty.

* Take cool showers or baths to lower your body temperature; fans alone will not protect against heat-related illness during extreme temperatures.

* Avoid using the stove or oven to cook, as they can raise indoor temperatures.

* Never leave a child or pet alone inside a parked car, even for a short time.

* Avoid excessive exercise with pets when it is hot outside.

* Ensure pets left outdoors have adequate shade and access to fresh, cool water.
