The Chattanooga Fire Department, in partnership with the Tennessee National Guard and other local, state and federal agencies, will host a full-scale drill at Finley Stadium on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The training exercise will get underway at 8 AM so citizens can expect to see emergency vehicles and personnel in the area for several hours. It will simulate an incident involving hazardous materials in a stadium setting where thousands of people would gather.

The 45th Civil Support Team (CST) with the Tennessee National Guard will be involved in the training event. Their core mission is to identify nuclear, biological, and chemical agents, assess hazards, and provide immediate medical and technical support during Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) or hazardous material incidents.

The CFD’s Type 1 Hazmat Team, the Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management, and the FBI will also participate in the Joint Hazardous Assessment Team (JHAT) Exercise.

To protect the safety and security of first responders and military personnel and the tactics used during hazmat responses, this training event will not be open to the media. No photos, videos, or drones will be allowed. Thank you for your understanding, support, and cooperation.

NEW DIVISION! The Chattanooga Fire Department is proud to announce the formal establishment of its Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Division, reinforcing the department’s long-standing commitment to proactive public safety and community engagement.

While the department has provided fire prevention education, outreach initiatives, safety programs, and risk-reduction efforts for many years, the creation of a dedicated CRR Division marks an important step in coordinating and expanding those services under a unified strategy.

The CRR Division will focus on identifying community-specific risks and implementing programs designed to prevent emergencies before they happen. Efforts will include public education, smoke alarm initiatives, fall prevention, youth outreach, disaster preparedness, community partnerships, and targeted safety campaigns based on local data and trends.

The team will work closely with schools, neighborhood organizations, healthcare partners, businesses, and public safety agencies to address the unique needs of the community through education, prevention, and outreach.

The formation of the CRR Division reflects a growing emphasis within the fire service on prevention-focused strategies that improve quality of life, reduce injuries, and enhance overall community resilience.

The first official community project of the CRR Division will be an Elder Care Drive, focused on collecting essential household items for older adults and vulnerable residents in the community.
All 20 of our fire stations will be drop-off points from June 1-8, 2026 for things like toilet papers, trash bags, bar soap, paper towels, and laundry detergent pods. Together, we can support our elders! Thank you in advance for your generosity and support with donated goods.

With the CRR Division, the CFD will continue building partnerships that connect residents with resources, strengthen prevention efforts, and support safer homes across Chattanooga.

Please follow the amazing work of the CRR Division on social media at: .

Chattanooga firefighters will stop at nothing when it comes to helping others and that includes traveling across the country each year to build a brand new home for a combat wounded veteran. A group from the CFD is in Western New York with “A Soldier’s Journey Home” to construct a mortgage-free house for Retired Army Specialist Nathan Kalwicki and his wife, Veronica.

Retired Captain Chip Odell, Captain Tyler Swindell, Captain Joe Fuller, Captain Chris Blazek , Senior Firefighter Mark Coffman, Senior Firefighter Britt Bradshaw, Senior Firefighter Josh Hixson, and Firefighter Jake Case made the trip this year. They are all playing a part in the house build that honors Nathan’s service and supports his family’s future. And ASJH does this project in 2.5 weeks- from pouring the foundation to the family moving in! It’s a miraculous feat.

Safe travels to our firefighters and special thanks to the entire ASJH team for the work they do for our nation’s heroes!

Great stop by Red Shift on an apartment fire off McBrien Road Tuesday morning. The call came in at 10:57 AM on 5/26/26 to the Equinox at Midtown Apartments. Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a third-floor bedroom inside one of the apartments located in a building at the center of the complex. Crews worked to protect residents’ properties in apartments on lower floors by placing tarps over furniture and other belongings. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Someone drove over our supply line at this scene. That’s the large hose coming from the fire hydrant that provides water to firefighters fighting the fire. This endangers lives and it’s illegal. Culprits face a citation and fine. You can also damage your car, resulting in costly repairs.
