Sharing on behalf of Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau:

The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau has issued a BURN BAN for Hamilton County until further notice, due to extremely dry and windy conditions, which significantly elevates the risk of fires spreading. We strongly urge the public to take these hazardous conditions seriously and avoid all burning at this time.

Violations of the burn ban will result in an immediate Notice of Violation, along with fines and penalties.

My EPB partners asked me to share with our Facebook followers......

Due to extremely cold temperatures, TVA has asked EPB and other local power companies to issue a public appeal for customers to voluntarily reduce power use, particularly tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

We are issuing the following public statement to help customers prepare with energy-saving tips. We will update you with any new information.

Public Statement

POWER ADVISORY: Wednesday, January 22, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastern Time

Due to extremely cold temperatures, TVA has asked EPB to encourage our customers to reduce their power use, particularly tomorrow morning: Wednesday, January 22, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

EPB is issuing this Power Advisory a day in advance so customers have enough notice to help them save money on their energy bill while reducing potential strain on the power grid.

Please use these tips, particularly tomorrow, January 22 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastern Time:
• Set your thermostat to 65-68 degrees.
• Postpone use of your clothes dryer, dishwasher and stove/oven.
• Turn off non-essential appliances and lights.
• Commercial Business: Turn off any lights and office equipment (or place in sleep mode) when not in use and turn off heating outside of business hours.

To help meet TVA’s request, we recommend preparing today by adjusting thermostats, washing needed clothes and dishes, and turning off non-essential electronics and lights tonight.
