***Copied from a friend who works for st. Francis. ***

PLEASE READ. The ER IS NOT A PLACE for a COVID test. When you come for that reason you are taking up value resources from patients in the waiting room with ACTUAL medical emergencies. You do not NEED to name your sore throat or stuffy nose.
What you may not realize is that a COVID test in the ER is an actual ER visit. Meaning, triage, nursing, physician, lab, room, and discharge. The average time to get the test done is 1 hour. When you add in triage, charting, the doctors time, and discharge papers- a room is taken up for about 2 hours. Add in the fact that a Room with a positive COVID patient (regardless of how minor the symptoms may be) can’t be cleaned for 30 minutes because the virus has to settle on the surface to be cleaned up and the WHOLE room is deep cleaned curtains and all- that’s another hour. So now we are at 3 hours of resource time. Multiply that by 10 patients and you can see how quickly the hours of resources adds up. Now add in WHOLE FAMILIES are coming in, most without symptoms just merely exposed. It’s becoming a serious issue.

Freezing temperatures will move into the area this weekend. TODAY is the day to prep for winter weather! Please share so everyone is aware to prepare for the incoming freezing temperatures.

Yesterday's delays on US-69 highlight the need to have an emergency kit within your vehicle. This should include warm clothing/blankets, a battery-powered flashlight, and bottled water at a minimum.

1. Are YOU ready? Prepare yourself and your immediate family. A basic preparedness kit should include battery or hand-power radios to keep up with the weather (Don't forget to bring your pets inside during freezing temperatures)

2. Is YOUR neighborhood ready? Check on your neighbors, especially those who may need some assistance both before and after emergency situations.

3. Is YOUR home ready? Be sure to insulate exposed waterpipes and weather-strip doors and windows. (This will also save on you $$$ on utility bills) It's also wise to have a few candles ready to light for emergency lighting in the winter - just place them on a fireproof surface.

Check out the infographics below to assist you in checking your preparedness.

With cold weather approaching please remember
With the first big blast of artic air set to arrive Saturday please prepare now and always follow winter safety tips:

Keep anything that can burn at least three feet away from heaters.

Have a three-foot “kid-free zone” around open fires and space heaters.

Never use your oven to heat your home.

Always use the right kind of fuel for fuel burning space heaters.

Test smoke alarms at least once a month.

Remember to turn portable heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.

Make sure the fireplace has a sturdy screen to stop sparks from flying into the room.
