Cheektowaga Police see success in mental health expert, police partnership

We are proud to be the first in the growing partnership with Endeavor Health Services in the creation of having a Behavioral Specialist working with local law enforcement. We are excited to see the formation of a Behavior Health Team in Buffalo Police Department and wish them all the support and success that we have experienced.

Last year, Assistant Chief Brian Gould had an idea that would transform the Cheektowaga Police Department. He created the Police Behavioral Health Response Program with the help of Endeavor Health Services.

Cheektowaga Police SWAT Team

Ordinarily our SWAT team runs our local tunnels to towers 5K as a unit. Unfortunately, it has been canceled for the year like many other things. Our intent is to have our SWAT team members run from our police station to a local 911 memorial that is six miles away and back. Our goal is to raise the amount of money that is usually generated by ticket sales for the Cheektowaga based event that was cancelled.

Local police departments team up for “Lucky Duck Scavenger Hunt”

We are so excited to be spearheading this event! Getting 10 agencies to participate with us shows how important our communities are to each of your local law enforcement agencies! 🚔 🦆 💙

Ten police departments have hidden rubber ducks around parks in the area.

People have been asking how we are getting the ducks up into the trees...introducing the Duck Dropper! This contraption was designed by our very own Lt. Schmidt! Town of Tonawanda Police came to visit Losson Park and we got to show Lt. Milosich the Duck Dropper in action! We are loving the positive feedback from the community on the Lucky Duck Scavenger Hunt!!! Keep sharing your pictures with us! Good luck! #LuckyDuckPd

It’s LUCKY DUCK SCAVENGER HUNT time!! We are so happy to announce 10 agencies participating this year!! Here is the list of agencies and the parks that will have ducks!
Some agencies need a couple more days to get their ducks in a row! As soon as they are ready we will notify the public on this site!! So far Cheektowaga Police, Town of Tonwanda Police and Orchard Park Police are ready!!!

Some participating agencies are offering prizes for finding their Lucky Duck! The Lucky Duck will have that agencies patch and the Lucky Duck symbol hanging off of it! If you find it, take a picture of it and submit it to the Lucky Duck Scavenger Hunt FaceBook page via Facebook Messenger! You will be put in for a random drawing at the end of the month. Each agency that is offering prizes is different and will be up to the discretion of the departments. You are not limited to one town! Do them all for more chances to win!! The agencies offering prizes are Cheektowaga Police, Town of Tonawanda Police, Orchard Park Police, Village of Kenmore Police, Lancaster Police, Depew Police and Transit Authority!

All the agencies have exchanged ducks with each other so make sure to look for the different police departments in each of the parks!

We really wanted to do something for our communities during these difficult times! All that we ask is PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR TAKE THE DUCKS!! Some ducks have gone missing already and we won’t have enough replacements to get us through the event.

We would love to see your pictures and hints for the tricky ducks on here!!! #luckyduckpd
GOOD LUCK!

Happy Birthday Calen!

Today was a very special day for us. We met little Calen last month after his dad saw some of our officers and asked them if they could come over and say hi to his 3 year old son Calen. He told us that Calen LOVES the police!! Calen's family has been staying at a local hotel after losing everything in a house fire. We found out that Calen was celebrating his 4th birthday (today) and we knew we had to try to make it as special as we could under the unfortunate circumstances of Covid & the fire. We went to Wegmans and asked them to blow up a balloon for us while we picked up a cake. Wegman's assistant managers, Joe and Anna without hesitation said "we have to make this extra special for him". The two of them ran to the toy aisle and started filling up a bag and brought back food for the family to enjoy! We were overwhelmed by Wegman's kindness!! With the amazing partnership and generosity of Wegmans we were able to give Calen a birthday he would not forget! We can't thank Wegman's enough for donated the cake, balloons, food and bag of toys! Calen's mom shared her video with us! Our hearts are full!!

06/08/2020

There have been several bear sightings in and around the Town of Cheektowaga. This kind of adolescent bear is what is referred to as a transient bear. It has typically been removed form the family group and is in search of its own territory. Usually they can navigate their way through and out of harm’s way so long as people do not interfere, feed, or chase them into less than optimal areas.

If you would like to report a bear sighting, have a bear complaint, or a question please contact the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation wildlife office at: 716-379-6402. If there is an emergency, please contact the Region 9 Division of Law Enforcement at: 716-851-7006, or the 24-hr dispatch number: 877-457-5680.

It is bitter sweet to have to say good bye to our amazing Property Clerk, Annette who is retiring after 19 years of dedicated service! Annette began her career at Cheektowaga Police Department in 2001 and was assigned to the Records Unit as a Clerk Typist. Annette was promoted to Senior Clerk Typist in 2004 and became the Property Clerk and remained in
the position til today.

The job of Property Clerk sometimes goes unappreciated.
On a daily basis, the property clerk receives, stores, records, and issues money, valuables, and other articles collected as evidence, recovered, lost, or stolen property that must get returned or destroyed to its proper owners. The paperwork is endless and it's crucial that documentation is right. The position of Property Clerk is not easy, yet you completed 16 years of it with integrity and professionalism.

Annette, thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to the Police Department. You deserve the best retirement and we wish you much joy and happiness as you begin this new chapter in your life.
