Bellevue Fire Company

Bellevue Fire Company Founded in 1948 Bellevue Fire Company began just after the end of WWII in 1947. On one attempt, the treasurer stole the money and moved to Ohio to live.

Several groups had attempted to start a fire company in the previous years, but failed. Another attempt saw the six hundred dollars of the treasury lost when the Bank of Depew failed due to poor management. At that time, the only fire protection was if a fire broke out, a call was made to a neighboring fire commissioner. A fee of about $35.00 was required but no guarantee there would be an answer

to the call. It was a fire on Bellevue Blvd that prompted another attempt. The fire was extinguished by throwing shovels of snow on it and right then it was decided to start a fire company. They agreed to meet that very night and neighbors were called to attend. Unfortunately only seven people showed up for the meeting. Lack of attendance was caused by either poor communication or the feeling it would fail again. Needless to say the group was pretty disgusted. The group had little knowledge of how to start a fire company, but after many glasses of refreshments and many arguments on how to organize, the group set out to do so anyway and in 1962 the fire company became the Bellevue Fire District #9 and five members were appointed fire commissioners and then elected for their appropriate terms. Since that time Bellevue Fire District #9 has been serving and protecting the citizens of their district with honor and pride.

🚨🚨HEADS UP!!🚨🚨

We have just been notified that the New Enterprise quarry (the old Buffalo Crushed Stone) on Como Park Blvd. has a blast scheduled for this Friday, April 25th at 11:00am. This is the first blast in quite a while so it’s bound to catch a few people off-guard. Please share the word with friends, family, and neighbors if you live in the nearby areas.

Check out this cool thing the Bellevue Ladies Auxiliary is doing. Who doesn’t like steak and those delicious rolls & butter combo?!?! The auxiliary does an awful lot in the community like helping us with our outreach programs as well (they’re the muscle behind our kid’s Halloween party).

The Bellevue Ladies Auxiliary is having a fundraiser at the Texas Roadhouse in Cheektowaga. The auxiliary will receive a percentage of the food purchases on either Dine-In or To-Go Orders. Please bring a copy of the picture below or print it out so that we will receive the credit.

Bellevue firefighters kicked off the day in style by treating some lucky students to a ride to school in a fire engine, making the ordinary extraordinary! Back in September, we hosted an open house and held a drawing for this unique ride, and we were delighted to provide this opportunity to all school age residents who entered. We hope everyone had a blast and can't wait to see you all soon at our next community event!

This morning at 8:33 Bellevue Fire Company was alerted for an alarm of fire - Heavy black smoke coming from the backyard reported by a passerby. Upon arrival it was discovered to be a hot tub on fire with exposure to the residence. One occupant was still inside the home and was evacuated by the first arriving personnel and an officer from the Cheektowaga Police Department. Bellevue Engine 2 arrived on scene moments later and deployed one 1 3/4” hand line to extinguish the fire. The remaining arriving crews began to check for extension and cut power at the service panel. Bellevue was assisted by mutual aid companies Doyle Hose Co. No. 1 & Doyle Hose Company No. 2, South Line Fire, and Forks Fire Dept. FAST provided by Twin District Volunteer Fire Company. The fire was reported out within several minutes of arrival by the first engine. The fire was contained to the outside, no extension into the structure. The home was able to be reoccupied immediately following. Time on scene 56 minutes. A big thank you to all mutual aid companies, and to the neighbors who reached out to the homeowners that had been out of town at the time of the incident. Our community is truly something special.

Last night your Bellevue firefighters wrapped up our month long drill topic on auto extrication. We started off with the basic principles and worked our way up to more challenging and advanced techniques, then capped it all off with a few car fires. By far a favorite topic for our members, it provides some critical thinking and problem solving. But more importantly showcases the value of teamwork.

Just a huge, huge thank you to everyone who came out today to check out our little community event. A big shout out to Cheektowaga Police Department, Boston Fire Co., Forks Fire, Seneca Hose, AMR, Erie County Emergency Services, Rusiniak’s Towing, SPCA, Nickel City Canine, T2T Buffalo, and Home Depot/Kidde Fire Safety for helping to make this event what it was. We won’t bombard you with a zillion pictures, maybe just a few. If you have some you’d like to share, feel free to tag us.

If you or anyone you know would like to learn more about emergency/public service, we urge you to stop by your local fire station, police department, etc. and talk to some people. It is such a rewarding line of work/volunteerism.

Stay tuned for future events!
