With in the next hour, NYSEG will be shutting off power affecting the areas between Broadway and French and Borden to Union.
The outage should last no longer than 5 minutes.
Founded in 1948 Bellevue Fire Company began just after the end of WWII in 1947. On one attempt, the treasurer stole the money and moved to Ohio to live.
(16)
Several groups had attempted to start a fire company in the previous years, but failed. Another attempt saw the six hundred dollars of the treasury lost when the Bank of Depew failed due to poor management. At that time, the only fire protection was if a fire broke out, a call was made to a neighboring fire commissioner. A fee of about $35.00 was required but no guarantee there would be an answer
to the call. It was a fire on Bellevue Blvd that prompted another attempt. The fire was extinguished by throwing shovels of snow on it and right then it was decided to start a fire company. They agreed to meet that very night and neighbors were called to attend. Unfortunately only seven people showed up for the meeting. Lack of attendance was caused by either poor communication or the feeling it would fail again. Needless to say the group was pretty disgusted. The group had little knowledge of how to start a fire company, but after many glasses of refreshments and many arguments on how to organize, the group set out to do so anyway and in 1962 the fire company became the Bellevue Fire District #9 and five members were appointed fire commissioners and then elected for their appropriate terms. Since that time Bellevue Fire District #9 has been serving and protecting the citizens of their district with honor and pride.
With in the next hour, NYSEG will be shutting off power affecting the areas between Broadway and French and Borden to Union.
The outage should last no longer than 5 minutes.

Regarding Memorial Service for Commissioner James Havernick Sr.
It is with profound sadness that we share the news that past chief and current commissioner James Havernick Sr. passed away today. Jim was a lot of things to a lot of people here and across the region. But most of all, he was a father, uncle, and mentor to many at the firehall. Please keep the Havernick family in your thoughts as they navigate through this difficult time. Jim guided the way for many, there’s not one member he didn’t make an impact on over his 53 years of service. Rest east Jim, we’ll take it from here.

Como Park Blvd will be temporarily closed off to traffic from Bennett Rd. to the back entrance of Losson Park. The race starts at 8:40am and should conclude around 11:30am. Last night Bellevue firefighters wrapped up our annual OSHA/PESH refresher course. Each year we go through the course and learn about the new guidelines, then implement and continue to train on the topics throughout the rest of the year.
We strive to be our best when people are at their worst. This storm took a toll on us all and some of our residents saw us torn, exhausted, and defeated at times. Thank you to the residents of our town as well as the unintended visitors we met along the way who were ever so understanding and patient as we made our way to respond under difficult conditions. We are grateful to our friends from Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office who trucked in a piece of specialty equipment as well as Albany County Sheriff’s Office who hand delivered parts to us on Christmas Eve to repair a piece of our equipment, they were both literally life savers. Also a big thank you to Gates Fire District and Springbrook Fire Department for coming in to run calls with us for the past 24 hours to give our team a much needed break. We may be a bit banged up, but still standing proud and ready for when our residents need us most. We hope everyone was able to make the best of a bad situation, we’re all a little stronger for it.
FYI… There is still an active driving ban currently. This will be reduced to a travel advisory tomorrow morning at 6:00am. A travel advisory still means no unnecessary travel. We’re all excited to get to Tim Horton’s for a large double double. But please take it easy out there and PULL OVER for any emergency vehicles and give the plows and snow removal equipment some room to work.
!!! There have been a few fires across town the past few days. It has been difficult just to get apparatus and personnel down streets, if you have a means of clearing out a hydrant in your neighborhood please give it a shot. Someone’s home or life may depend on that.
This is Bob
Bob sees the fire hydrant near his house is buried under the snow, so he makes sure it’s clear in case it’s needed
Bob is smart
Be like Bob
So if anyone with a tracked vehicle (snow groomer, panzer tank, etc.) or a payloader is bored and not doing anything. Your Bellevue firefighters and all town fire companies could use a hand. Give us a call at 716-685-1680 or 716-870-3989.
Please consider staying inside today and off the roadways as conditions change frequently. It will make it easier for all first responders, plow drivers and utility companies to get out and do what they do. If you do feel the need to go out (which you shouldn’t) please turn your headlights so other motorists can see you, do t rely on your automatic lights.
Bellevue will be staffed by our volunteers full time through Saturday evening. All emergency calls should still be routed through the 911 system. We urge all residents to bunker down for the evening and reassess tomorrow morning as day breaks and skies clears. Stay Safe.
REMINDER: Carbon monoxide poisoning is a risk during major snow storms. Stay safe by clearing snow from furnace vents and ensuring generators are positioned away from the house. PLEASE if you feel your property is in need of these maintenance tips please call a contractor and not 911.
Just before 3am this morning, our fire fighters responded to a fully involved car fire in the Appletree Business Park parking lot. As we ran low on water, the high lift driver helped us cool the fire down. Unconventional but effective.
Our snow response vehicles are geared up and ready to go as are all of our Firefighters and equipment. We are lucky enough to have specialized equipment to respond to various emergency's for the anticipated heavy snow fall coming. As we are ready here to serve you please remember some key reminders in helping us responding to our district residence and business.
1) Remember to not run any generator near or inside your house or garage.
2) Please do not discard your fire place ashes in your garbage can, tote or cardboard boxes. And when disposed keep away from any structure.
3) Please remember to keep all vents clear from snow.
4) Please do your best to keep your hydrant shoveled and cleared on your property.
5) Please follow your town travel policy, this helps us get to where we need to be with our stranded motorist.
6) Consider at least a 2 day food/medication supply.
7) STAY HOME
It's official we are kicking off Bellevue’s 75th Anniversary Celebration “2023” starting with this beautiful garage door wrap thanks VSP Graphic Group for the outstanding design!!!!!! Over the next year you will see many posts about our history for the last 75 years. We encourage everyone in our community to stop by and take a look of the past "few years"
Tonight we had our first ever family night where Bellevue firefighters trained the next generation of firefighters. It was a great opportunity for our families to see firsthand what their first responders do and spark interest in carrying on the legacy. If you or someone you know is considering joining, or would like to learn more, please stop by or give us a shout. We’d love to show you around!
A friendly reminder, the NYS burn ban is in effect until May 14th.
Very low humidity today through Saturday will continue to quickly dry dead grass and brush, resulting in an elevated risk of wildfire spread. Be mindful of anything that could create a spark or ember over the next few days. The annual NY burn ban remains in effect through May 14.
Thank you not only to the public safety dispatchers of the town of Cheektowaga, but to all dispatchers who answer the calls and provide valuable life saving guidance in a calm and collected voice. They are everyday heroes.
This week is National Public Safety Telecommunications week! We wanted to take a minute to thank the calm, reassuring voice you hear on the other end of a 911 call. A dispatcher gives pre-arrival instructions, listens to the cries of those who need help, gives CPR instructions, does ten things at once while typing 100 words a minute, all while making sure that their first responders are safe! They are the Golden Glue that holds us all together. These men and women often go unrecognized for the vital work they do. On behalf of the Cheektowaga Police Department we want to say "𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔" to our dispatchers that protect us everyday.
The Easter Bunny made its way to the firehall today to wish the kids of Bellevue Firefighters a “Hoppy” Easter. A big thank you to the Bellevue Ladies Auxillary and Mr. Rick for putting it all together and making it happen.
Swing by today from 8:00-2:00 to check out the ladies auxiliary flea market and bake sale. There’s sure to be some cool stuff.
